How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Well Peterfor the second time onlyI have de-squelched you if there is such a word?the very first time was to see if you had actually learnt to converse in a reasonable mannerand without your normal superior condescending and very irritating speeches
I believe you are in the Merchant Navy and think it necessary to show authority in the weirdest wayI could be wrong?if you behave in your place of workin such a mannerI cant see you getting a great deal of respect from your fellow men or womenshame reallyyour good friend Cynic has a far greater understanding on how to conduct himself
Anyway thats just Tabascos take on you for what it is worth
As this is my specialist subject and you have once again been a little unkindand of course misunderstood my postI thought it only fair to point out your mistake
The horse in question.Mr Big[what a huge coincidence]was listed in my special book
I sometimes share info on the racing threadgiving readers the chance to evaluate my opinion of a horses chance compared to pricesomething others pay good money for
To simplifyI do odds compiling and use trade paper tissues to draw comparisons
Now check post 10411...you will notice on the 27th of January I advised Jeff to look at Mr Bigas it had more than a good chanceand was extremely good value at the currant oddsunfortunately it run a stinker and was pulled upJeff took the piss a littleand I have no time for people that throw things in your facewhen in fact I was trying to be helpfulbut as you knowI have Rhino skin
The Horse was turned out again on the 19th of Februaryand it duly obliged at a good price as expected by meI couldnt help but feel a little smugand I did have it off
So you seeno hindsight was involvedjust a little patience
Now if you want to be liked a little more in lifetry and conduct yourself with a little
more decorumand you never knowa few more on here might get to like you
I will read your replyif you write one
If there is a change in your attitude there will be a change in mineif not votre choix

Tabby, I think you need to learn how to chill(i) just a little, I was merely pulling your chain, just a little fun at your expense (or perhaps even mine).
With regard to wishing to be liked by other posters, I'm afraid I don't really care. My rationale for signing up to a financial BB was to learn from those more experienced than I and eventually to share my own knowledge (albeit limited) in return. Surprisingly (to you?) I have made quite a few friends over the years through the good offices of AM, so I guess some of the time I must have been doing something right. As I am sure you will have noticed, I post sparingly these days, my life does not revolve around a financial BB. For some reason (which I must admit I don't fully understand) I am sufficiently well respected by friends and work colleagues alike not to worry about upsetting the odd character on AM. I will also admit that despite the MDX debacle I still read your posts although not an avid reader you understand.
In summary, stop taking me so seriously and if you wish proof of the respect in which I am held in the workplace, check the 2004 New Year Honour's List :-)

Firetrap ran behind Iron Velvet in a class 4 btn 2 L last August with a rating of 62...Iron Velvet now has a rating of 75... Firetrap is now 58 in this class 6...his first run of the season was at Wolverhampton on the All Weather some eight months onhe was asked to run over a distance 3 furlongs further than attempted before
This is usually a sign a trainer is using the race for a fitness exercise also the surface is slower
Held up in last placeand still going ok a furlong outfaded into thirdtrainer Anne Duffield booked Seb Sanders that dayand the horse attracted money at 9/2...today he is on his favoured grass in a poor race and back in distance by 2 furlongs Firetraps best effort was that Iron Velvet raceand guess what?that was run at Catterick same as todaythe jig-saw is complete
JeffThis is rated to win now if it runs poorlycould bemild colicbruisingAnaemiatravel sicknessor just totally pissed off syndromestart your own little black bookand make a note.simplesI see a little money has come already

Tobasco, did this horse only have 3 legs?;-)
see it came 7th out of 10,
proof is in the pudding,
simples. your pick was a donkey,
Dont shoot the messenger now;-) im just observing
Does anyone really make decent money from befair?, i guess there will be a few, but i reckon they would be more number crunchers than pure gamblers,
I know i took a look at it a few years ago , and it was more hassle than it was worth, still need movement in your direction to green up etc
Maybe its a woman thing, but ide rather watch charts than silly nags jumping over fences ;-) seems a little bit more predicatable, or am i missing something?

RuthI did expect some sort of ridiculebut let me just explain racingfirst of all my selection was a 3yo bay gelding thoroughbred by Firebreaknot a Donkeysecond pointyes people do make money from betfairopinion vs opiniona winner and a loser! If you look on the horse racing thread [RACE] tabasco - 09 Apr 2010 15:53 - 792 of 805
A few minutes to the Topham ChaseI have had a small bet on N A Twiston-Davies second string DIABLO22/1 best priced bookmakers27/1
----------------
Diablo was my clear best value for money bet in that raceit finished last to complete [15th] in the 27 runner racenow at this pointI did not spit the dummy calling Diablo a donkeyit was in my bookand had solid claims!I tell you this for a reason
Yesterday just ten minutes after the disappointment of FiretrapDiablo was running in the 3.20 Perth.
I was on for good money at 6/4 and a little better for smaller amounts where it obliged by 17L and 58L at the returned odds of 5/4...that combined with a number of traded horses and a number of laysone in the same racegave me an overall winning day
Firetrap would have given me a very good day and is on a winning mark that could even be improvedand will have his day I will be on when most on here will have forgotten the name!
Ruth.racing is a lot of work! Fall short and you will end up skint

Tobasco,
Every horse will have its day eventually, the problem is how much money will be lost backing the horse before it eventually shruggs off its donkey status and is first over the line,
As you say its simples, its simple mathermatics, and somehow i dont see it adding up?

Well Ruth the last two that I mentioned won their next race15/2...and 5/4...both were available at better odds than the returnedwhen you say every horse has its daythat is a very fair assumptionso using that as your starting point and to simplify mattersselect one type of horselook for an unexposed improver off a low markpossibly run only seven times in two seasonsfirst five races tailed off out the back? maybe his last two races have been 6th of 16 btn. 3L running onand 5th of 14 btn 2 but with a slow startand hampered in running.
Now on bare form figures he would be declared unplaced in all seven races and will be rated as suchbut we know that does not tell the total storythose that always know the total story have the edgethose that have the edge gain that small margin available
Now I dont want to bore you with Race ClassTracks left hand/right hand or straightgoingblinkersdraw biasbooked Jockeysstable JockeysApprenticesTrainer formhorses that sweator claustrophobic with stallsand so onbut it is all part of the equation Ruthonce solvedyou have the edge!I play to solvemost of my horse are tradableeven yesterdays runner was around fourth favourite in most morning papersbut around 12-30 Betfair was showing him as fav. at 6.6.
