How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

A number of interesting points on todays racingI give you one thought.Sandown 3-25...a 1 maiden fillies stakes
There are a couple of interesting runnersFantastic Cuix and Ship's Biscuit Cuix is trained by Cumani and ridden by FallonBiscuit is trained by Stout and ridden by Mooreboth last run in a Kempton maiden last Novemberwhere Cuix finished fourth to a Cecil horseand btn. Just over 2LBiscuit was a place further backbtn. Another L.the second horse that day was Clarvoyancea John Gosden runner that went on to win his next race by 6Land then went on to run Pipette 3L in a class twoCecils runner has not been seen out again but has an Oaks and an Ascot Coronation stakes entrywow!
Now Cumani always leaves a little to work on with his runnersStout usually has his runners spot onso on their last running Fantastic Cuix who beat Ship's Biscuit should have the greater scopehere is where it becomes interestingBetfair have Fantastic Cuix at 23 and Ship's Biscuit at 4.1..Ill leave you all to do the mathand work out the value.

How much money was there on betfair for first cat, are we talking just a few quid, or hundreds.or even thousands?

tabasco - 23 Apr 2010 16:18 - 10461 of 10502

The liquidity can be a problem on big priced runners race gone so cant give you exact volumenext Perth race.which I do not have an interest in= total volume so far 355,839 .
Hit 27 returned 33.3 very small profittuck away in the notebook!Hannons usually need a run46 was too bigwill probably turn up at a Windsor evening meetingall done now!

Ruth - 23 Apr 2010 17:05 - 10462 of 10502

Tobasco, horse racing isnt for me, i was just interested in how much liquidity there was on the smaller races

I remember looking at the financial markets on betfair a few years ago, and the liquidity was dreadfull,
just a few quid here and there, not sure if thats changed now though .

Dil - 24 Apr 2010 01:39 - 10463 of 10502

Tabby / Ruth , Sky are saying 2 minutes ago (as have every other news channel for the last week) that given the current polls Labour will win the most seats.

Any thoughts on this and the odds on betfair for that happening ?

tabasco - 24 Apr 2010 07:31 - 10464 of 10502

General Election - Most Seats best odds
Conservatives..1.24...= 1/4
Labour.5.8.= 5/1
Liberal Democrats28.= 27/1

General Election - Overall Majority
No Overall Majority1.7.= 5/7
Conservative Majority.2.76...= 7/4
Labour Majority..24..= 23/1

Dil.if you read my earlier posts on this thread you will see that I had punts on a May Election and a Hung Parliamentand at a time when the majority were shouting Tory landslide
Ive had the May winner and now hold a large inviting odds against stake on an odds on fav. and have no reason to change my view!..
Work to doMorning Line to watchgood luck all.be safeholidays are coming..

Dil - 24 Apr 2010 09:17 - 10465 of 10502

your having a laff tabby , my flight last Sunday to Majorca was cancelled :-(

But why are the odds so out of sync with the polls tabby ?

tabasco - 25 Apr 2010 08:42 - 10466 of 10502

One of the horses Tabby gave us that lost is running tomorrow. Previous experience is that they win next time out so might be worth following.

The Point circuit has a great followingI have friends that have in the past had horses with Phil York and his FatherPhil is a great bloke...a legend in the point-to-point World and still a good Jockey

Perhaps Haljaferia Beverley 2-30 might be worth a piss takeI have it as a 7/2 chanceBetfair have it at 8.8 and I have backed it a lot higher...it will probably win next time outso dont back itthen I wont get the grizzle
