question for you forex dudes...what instrument moves most overnight during the asian session.....dollar/yen?
am looking at some overnight automation and am looking at the nikkei225 but thought that forex may be worth a look...any ideas of what instruments i should have a gander at?
i want my margin working overnight rather than sitting there doing feck all

Treb, suggest you have a look at the commentary here:
Forex live
which nicely summarises the action for each session. I'd also have a look at Hiltops' home page. Some of the best ways to trade are not neccessarily to trade each session during the active period, but to take a position early in anticipation. I can't say too much more as this is a key feature in some of Hiltops' automation. However, all my cable trades are opened shortly after 2 am, occasionally they're closed before breakfast. It's been a cracking few days though :-))
I'd certainly have a look at AUD linked pairs.

cheers SC will have a look but my scripts look for nice and steady range trading after a big break/move....all this crazy mega move action is not what i am looking for...i want a decent amount of rangey movement...that is where i make me money.
just added some asian stuff to my subscription to have a look and find what i am after, do not know why i have waited so long to get stuff going overnight...always been a wee bit nervous of it to be honest

The concept of entering cable in the middle of the night is probably more to do with the price having retraced and being within a range in thin trade following the previous day's action. The idea is to get in while it's quiet in expectation of a continuation of the previous day's trend. If you take your signal from a slow enough timeframe, trends can often last a week or more, so you can find yourself taking the same trade in the same direction every day for a week and they can all be winners if you get your TPs and SLs balanced correctly.

You also need to rember that the best barometer of how the FTSE is going to open is to look at the action of GBP/JPY between the FTSE futures closing at 9pm and opening again the next morning.
Everybody thinks it's got something to do with the action of the Dow between 5pm and 9pm but that's only part of the story as markets don't sleep.

S'alright Jeffie, seems there's been a misunderstanding about my nationality. Hiltops thinks I'm Indonesian.
Can you tell me what her home page looks like because I can't get on.
:-))

I wouldn't be that cruel to Jeffie. He might catch a nasty virus there.
I think my friend Hannah's given some of them a nasty dose of Swine Flu today.
