David Anderson (CROCODILE)

Bullshare - 25 May 2004 10:53

It is with deep regret I have to inform everyone that Dave Anderson(Crocodile) sadly passed away last night in his sleep.

This is a complete shock to all his family and friends, therefore can I ask everyone to respect their privacy and not phone his home etc.

David was the most likable and open person I have ever met and a huge friend of mine and MoneyAMs.

Whatever I post will never come near doing justice to this great man, so I will simply stop here.

Mike

20.13 I have had a few brief conversations with David's family today. Despite all that has happened they have managed to briefly log onto MoneyAm and seen the numerous postings. I know they are moved by the response. The family are in the process of organising David's funeral but matters are slightly complicated with the Bank Holiday weekend. I will post more in due course when I have some more information.

26 May :I have received many many e-mails with offers of help and offers of sympathy. Many thanks for all these and apologises if I have not been able to reply but I will get round to it. I will also make sure those that have asked me to pass on any messages to Davids family get sent on.

In the meantime I know many of you are wondering what happened. At this stage it is not for me to go into details but suffice to say it is of a natural cause and totally unexpected.

David had withdrawn a little from the site over the last few weeks as he felt he wanted to devote more time to looking after Maria who is very poorly. Although he did not post much in the day I do know he was constantly logging on. He still continued to burn the midnight oil to create each day traders thread and he would spend about 15 hours each weekend creating the Weekend/Monday thread.

16.34 26/May Have come off the phone from Rachel(David's daughter). Today is not an easy day for the family, I think they were so busy yesterday that today has been harder as it has had time to sink in. We talked about Funeral arrangements and Rachel mentioned that they could not book anything yet but will let me know as soon as possible. She mentioned once again about all the postings which they have been busy reading and thank everyone for all the kind words and thoughts. They will arrange a public funeral as they know a lot of people would like to attend.

A message from David's Family:(posted on David's website Snappytrader.com)

You only have to read this thread to have no doubt in which direction David will be heading. Very, very sad.

R.I.P.

Dieng - 25 May 2004 20:39 - 114 of 321

A sad day, throughout which Croc has occupied my mind.

I met Croc once in Edinburgh and we've talked on the phone. Always helpful, and admired by me for his reliability and hard work.

I will very much miss his daily presence.

With sadness, Andy.

Ruth - 25 May 2004 20:39 - 115 of 321

just off the phone to Jules, were both absolutely in shock at this terrible loss, but she said something that was very fitting to croc, the first name most newcomers see and learn from when they started trading was croc, now if there is a better place up there and croc is looking down on us, hede be saying"hey i didnt teach u all about trading for you all to stop " i think croc would want us all to carry on and make the most of what he taught us,
So tommorrow, lets do just that, in memory of croc, i know its difficult to concentrate under the circumstances, but i will give it a good go.

Crocs course was the first i went on,at his home in Birmingham, and i remember looking at L2 and being horrified, how was i ever going to understand that? croc guided me through it and showed me bots etc,

Like Treblewide i recently had a bit of a run in on the board, not with croc direct, but sort of related, and i too received a very nice phone call from Croc whilst he was in France , and then some really nice emails when he returned,he was a gentleman, always happy to help, like gordon says, no malice, no grudges, will be sadly missed,Thoughts are with his family and his young grandson, They have all lost a good one.

You know we take for granted in life all the things that really matter, it really does hit home when something as tragic as this happens, Croc was far far to young to be snatched away like that, Im not a religeous person, but hopefully there is a better place beyond this life, and croc will be resting in peace.

just in from a trip to the west country. terribly sad news. have learnt so much from him both in London and Dudley, which he disparaged so lightheartedly and yet loved with his view of the Welsh hills. his memory will live on and he willl certainly be remembered as he wished vasey.deepest sympathy to all tony

axdpc - 25 May 2004 21:01 - 118 of 321

In the course of today, reading one post after another, the feeling of a
"croc's extended trading family" got stronger. So, amongst us, let bygones be
bygones. It is good for trading, for health and for the soul ... and yes, I think
you would agree that's what croc would have liked to see.

Big Al - 25 May 2004 21:04 - 119 of 321

Ruth

That was my thought this afternoon when no-one was posting. The last thing he'd want was for everyone to stop doing what he had devoted the last few years to. I tried a bit this afternoon, but made a complete hash of it. He'd be dismayed!!

Remember 9/11? He was the first to post he could not trade and take advantage of what was going to be a major negative event.

Says it all.

RogerD - 25 May 2004 21:34 - 120 of 321

Just logged on for the first time today, which is a first for a long time, had a day off trading. Gobsmacked to hear the news. Never met david but felt that I knew him as a friend, had the odd comment between us. Always made a point of reading his thread each day in the morning and logged on during slow times and at the end of day after US closed. Will miss him and his exellent BB. God Bless his family.

Just shows you never know what the future hold, live each day to the full.

Dailos - 25 May 2004 21:38 - 121 of 321

Big Al
Thought of that myself today, we were all watching the news when the planes hit The World Trade Centre, Croc told ADVFN staff to go home and was first to post that he didnt want to trade and profit from the disaster, reading back, i see i was the first to post short this short that etc, i suppose it takes all types to make up this world, a kind gentleman like Croc and a ruthless git like me!
Will always remember the last line of all his e-mails "drop in for a cuppa anytime your passing" never took up the offer, something i will always regret.
Done a whole lot of thinking about a lot of things since the news, will give it a few days before making any changes but dont expect to spend so long in front of my screens in the future, dont need to trade and lifes too short it seems.
Cant believe how i feel about someone i've never met being taken away, if there is a god, one question..why?

Paulismyname - 25 May 2004 21:43 - 122 of 321

9/11 was a moral issue Alan even in terms of trading, I think David did the right thing then, and I believe we are doing the right thing now...taking time out to reflect.

Martini expressed things quite well when he said sod the markets and went away to cultivate his garden...perhaps if we all thought more about each other then the world would be a better place.

The thread over the roads epic is called "rise" and it is part of a fitting permanent memory to David and the decent way he reacted under extreme pressure, I have the original stored on my hard disk.

I know that life must go on and I am sure that is what David would have wanted, but there is no harm in taking stock of our feelings and of our loss

RogerD - 25 May 2004 21:46 - 123 of 321

Dailos- Like you I don't need to trade to survive. Todays tragic event just re enforces my comments on the board just the other day. I don't mind sitting in front of a computer during winter months, but, when the sun shines it's no contest. I just can't be asked! Lifes too short.

Big Al - 25 May 2004 22:18 - 124 of 321

Dailos - you said it all - a true gent and quite amazing how his passing has made us all feel.

Paul - we'll all mark our respects our own way. Just spent much of the afternoon reflecting on what Croc would think and wish. My guess was he'd like things to carry on. I did a bit and then did something else - thoughts very far from the markets I guess. That was the real point.

;-)

Christ, I'm gonna miss him.

Seymour Clearly - 25 May 2004 22:27 - 125 of 321

I haven't been able to think about anything else today since I heard the news. He helped me organise an ADVFN traders meet in Darlington which was the first time I met him. I invited several of my friends along and they were all completely bowled over by David's enthusiasm and approachability and have, like me been stunned by the news.

Even though we only met twice, I, like everyone else on this board considered him a true friend.

One of life's true gentlemen - and as has been said before - in this dog eat dog world there aren't many you can say that about.

Rob.

Sign of the Times - 25 May 2004 22:28 - 126 of 321

I only met David once in person at a traders' meeting, where he confirmed the impression he gave on the bulletin board. A top bloke, one who gave far more than he took.

hodgins - 25 May 2004 22:28 - 127 of 321

I only met David once recently and hadn't yet got to one of his courses but I certainly admired from afar.
Sincerest best wishes to all his family

Howard0181 - 25 May 2004 22:31 - 128 of 321

I did not trade this afternoon because I just could not get my head into trading but I agree with Ruth in that I am sure that Croc would want us all to get back to normal Wednesday.

I learned so much from Croc in the early days of my day trading. I told him that I was richer and wiser from his efforts.

Like Ruth I had a problem a month or so back which did involve Croc. He had the decency to call me from France and try and resolve some issues I had. I was and am so pleased that we resolved these problems.

Its a terrible loss. I am still numbed by the news.

beardy - 25 May 2004 22:46 - 129 of 321

It was with great sadness tonight that I learnt of crocs passing away.My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

I hope all those left behind can take a little comfort from the good Dave did whilst he was with us and hope he rest in peace.

Just logged on to Moneyam for the first time to-day --- very sad news. I had the pleasure like many of meeting David and Maria on a couple of occasions, and attended one of his Trading Courses in Dudley. A true and sincere Gentleman, who treated everyone like a friend and with his wife Maria made you feel very much at home. Sunday afternoon reading will never be quite the same.
Many thanks Croc.
