How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Now 5-3 I sense a 5-5 draw on the cards!

Did anyone back the Any Unquoted @ 2.66 then layed @ 1.04 (these were the actual odds) just before the 4th goal to green up for 147% profit, no? that makes two of us, I was only an observer!! more's the pitty...

Weird stuff and these sort of matches will not be a stable diet ever, I think. Still can't believe people were trying to make a market on this game.

The Inter v Atalanta game seems the best bet. Atalanta currently bottom of the table.

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:03 - 1173 of 10502

I'm having problems with my refresher, though it only occurs when I have ABP open. Driving me crazy. Anybody else having problems?

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:04 - 1174 of 10502

Inter just scored. Nice!

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:08 - 1175 of 10502

And again. Even nicer!

Re : The refresher it seems to reload the whole market every now and again. Is that the same issue you are having?

bakko - 16 Feb 2005 17:17 - 1177 of 10502

Just about to green up on Inter and they score again. This is great!!

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:18 - 1178 of 10502

Sounds similar Scrip. The race I'm trading on re loads and the refresher stops working. On the left hand side, instead of showing Todays Card, it clicks on to show all the races at the particular meeting I'm trading on. But it's not just occasionally, it's every few seconds sometimes. I'm lucky if I get 1 minute uninterupted.

bakko - 16 Feb 2005 17:23 - 1179 of 10502

Harlosh and Scrip,

I have similar intermittent problems with the refresher too. I just have to reload it when it occurs. It's a pain in the backside but don't have any choice.

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:32 - 1181 of 10502

What country are they from Fundy?

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:34 - 1182 of 10502

bakko,

never had a problem until the last 3 days or so. Now it's every few seconds.
I've emailed AB but he has kindly failed to reply.

Are you using AB Pro?

Fundamentalist - 16 Feb 2005 17:38 - 1183 of 10502

the ukraine

Harlosh - 16 Feb 2005 17:39 - 1184 of 10502

Thanks Steve.

Scripophilist - 16 Feb 2005 17:49 - 1185 of 10502

I think it is a Betfair issue. As all refreshers seem to be having the same problem. I am using a javascript refresher and that is having the same issue.

Scripophilist - 16 Feb 2005 17:51 - 1186 of 10502

I am on an early beta with something at the moment that will solve all your problems. You will have an autobet product on the top and a tab and bar for managing your bets. It's ace! But still early days at the moment. Will keep you in touch.

bakko - 16 Feb 2005 17:52 - 1187 of 10502

Harlosh,

Using AB B1 at moment and not Pro yet.

My refresher problems are mainly with Betfair's own platform. It will auto refresh OK most of the time but on numerous occasions it just stops and I need to restart it again. I just put it down to possible communication interferences??

However, I can imagine it must be extremely frustrating if you're on the horses as autorefresh is absolutely vital. I've not graduated onto the horses yet but will do so eventually. I hope it gets sorted out ASAP.
