CNOOC Chief Economist Predicts $90 Oil by March

RI article on the views of Xia Yishan, Senior Research Fellow at the China Institute of International Studies.

SHANGHAI (Interfax-China) -- Oil will peak at $90 per barrel by March of next year, CNOOC Dep. Chief Economist Zhang Weiping said at conference discussing China's energy needs in Beijing on Monday. Zhang also expected global oil production to peak at 94-100 mb/day during the next five years.

"High oil prices will have adverse affects on China's economy," said Zhang.

Their imports could reach or even exceed $60 billion this year, up from $40 billion in 2004. Interestingly his views do not reflect much of a cutback in Chinese oil imprts.

China's annual crude demand is expected to rise by 9.7% this year, suggesting that the country will need to import 135 million tonnes this year, accounting for 42.45% of total demand and exceeding last year's figure of 40.5%, said a recent report by the Development Research Center under the State Council.

The country's net oil imports stood at 120 million tonnes in 2004.

Share price is all over the place today... what's the consensus of opinion now of where it's heading and when ?

belisce6 - 07 Sep 2005 12:42 - 127 of 1049

IMHO;
all depends on what comes out of their steam thing in Colombia....if that does not come thru, then i think that sp is going down - otherwise if it does come thru, then it will rise (to at least double) overnight......

not sure how long it will take them to come up with the process of introducing and trialling steam at the Columbia prospect....anyone have any idea ? - will it take a few weeks or months ???

Aldor3 - 04 Oct 2005 15:59 - 128 of 1049

From t1ps.com
Black Rock - Finals
26 November 2005 (21:02:58)
Black Rock (BLR) on Thursday announced its final results for the 12 months ended 30th June 2005. There has been a lot of activity since the year end, and the numbers, to an extent, do not matter in the same way that the proven and probable reserves of oil do. However, for the 12 month period reported the company did not have any turnover as there was no production, and recorded a loss on activities before and after tax of 1,464,305. More importantly cash at the year end stood at 773,175. It will clearly be lower now. Now, whilst I have stated that I don't believe a fundraising is imminent, I suspect that over the next few months we will see cash raised to strengthen the balance sheet. The company stated that it has a net recoverable reserve potential of over 30 million barrels of oil equivalent, the majority coming from its JV acreage in Colombia. The shares trade at 1.75p, valuing the company at 5.4 million. Any success at all in Colombia could see a dramatic re-rating. In the UK and Eire there seems to be little progress to report but I understand that Ivan Burgess is working hard on some deals. The point is that this lowly valuation discounts failure everywhere and thus, at 1.75p, Black Rock shares remain a "speculative buy".
