about time as well -):

It was some people holding out and requiring Compulsory Purchase Orders which did delay the start ...

Can we keep this as a quote:
Network Rail said passengers would not be affected by the work.

As they're using the word 'expected' does this mean they're not sure yet:
The new concourse, expected to be more than three times bigger than the present one

City council leader Mike Whitby said New Street would be transformed into a station that would be "the envy of the world".
But no integrated bus or coach interchange...

Given the use of the word 'eventually' does this mean that they expect to be late in completing the project:
Eventually the station will have brighter and clearer platforms

More questions then answers there I think.

Yeep.... and no way to incorporate the high speed London to the North link that is presently being 'planned'.....

Stan - 11 Aug 2009 18:03 - 1277 of 1427

I have a venue for our next meeting http://www.birminghamcamra.org.uk

Only question is what day/times?..get your thinking caps on.

Thinking Caps On...
----------------------------------------------------

Mar 8 2004

A new high-speed train line from London to Birmingham and the North must be in place in ten years time to avoid critical levels of rail congestion, the Government's chief transport adviser has warned.

Looks like the Beer Fest coincides with the Birmingham ArsFest (again)....
That's why I couldn't make it to the BeerFest last year. Will let you know in a couple of weeks if I can make the BeerFest.....

Stan - 12 Aug 2009 19:51 - 1281 of 1427

Priorities please -):

"So there is every reason to believe that Birmingham might well get its high-speed link more quickly than the final completion date of 2027.

"Trains would run at 186mph"
... hopefully they'd slow down whilst passing thru Birmingham to allow people to get on/off...

Following a rebrand as 'pear cider', the drink traditionally known as perry has made a huge comeback.

... a possible new direct route from Shrewsbury to Blackpool

http://www.birminghampost.net/news/newsaggregator//tm_headline=birmingham-needs-new-station-to-cope-with-high-speed-link%26method=full%26objectid=24540045%26siteid=65233-name_page.html

Birmingham would need a new station. New Street wouldnt be able to cope with any new trains. We dont know where that would be.

survived87 - 28 Aug 2009 09:54 - 1285 of 1427

.... new station won't be at the 'Grand Central' site then.... !

Land identified as a possible site for a major new Birmingham railway station has been sold by the city council for 11 million.

The man appointed by the Government to investigate high-speed rail has made it clear that a new route from London to Scotland could still stop at Birmingham International Airport and the NEC, even though the option has been rejected by Network Rail.

GIANT twin towers set to straddle the southern entrance to the redeveloped New Street Station are being shelved due to the collapse in the market for city centre apartments and offices.

.and on the latest fly thru can't see any sign of the large public square that was previously promised to go with the project...
