I wish R Boardman all the best but feel he has made a bad career move.I believe SMC's idea of building a large architectural practice buy buying small firms to be unsound.Architects are individualistic by nature,it will like herding cats!!Having said that best of luck to them but I won't be investing.

I still think there must be a large buyer in the background soaking any sells up. Price is being well maintained.

Have just returned from holiday and seen 169 posts on this thread. Nice to see interest is high and bubbeling even if news isn't!!

kimoldfield - 23 Mar 2006 19:17 - 15753 of 27111

Hope you had a good holiday Explosive. Time we had a bit of news I think, although as they say, no news is good news! More crap:-

A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few Greenseal packed things when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued on.

Finally he went to the check-out line, but she got in front of him. "Pardon me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable. It's just that you look just like my son, who I haven't seen in a long time."

"That's a shame," replied the young man, "is there anything I can do for you?"

"Yes," she said, "As I'm leaving, can you say 'Good bye, Mother!'? It would make me feel so much better."

"Sure," answered the young man. So, when the old woman was leaving, he called out, "Goodbye, Mother!"

As he stepped up to the check-out counter, he saw that his total was 127.50. "How can that be?" he asked, "I only purchased a few things!"

The clerk replied, "Your mother said that you would pay for her."

There has to be some sort of debating point in there?!

Oilywag - 24 Mar 2006 12:08 - 15755 of 27111

Morning all,

If there is anyone there, do you have any ideas as to why the price has ticked up .75p today. Hope it is NOT a sign of anything too exciting to come as I want the price to stay roughly at these levels until 6th April so that I can squirrell away some more shares into into this year's ISA.

For those following NOP, there was a massive leak this morning prior to 8am with the shares rising 23p at opening and news being released after 10am. They are now 41p up. Regrettably, I don't have any.

Stanelco:
Big task ahead in converging intellectual property

Stanelco isnt an easy business to explain in less than 1000 words

Thanks beeb. A pretty comprehensive review considering it's shortness! Lends a lot more weight to the splitting of the RF and Starch businesses theory. Encouraging stuff though.

EWRobson - 27 Mar 2006 20:09 - 15765 of 27111

Reckon any demerger is way down the line. A high tech firm is natural bedfellow with a cash cow, which I reckon applies to the starch business.

kimoldfield - 28 Mar 2006 09:56 - 15766 of 27111

I know very little about company tax laws but would there be a tax advantage for the company to split? My appologies, shouldn't swear on BB's, sorry I mentioned the T word. T*X, there, that's better!

stockdog - 28 Mar 2006 10:53 - 15767 of 27111

I'm not sure a one product company which Starpol would become would be something I'd want to pin my life on. On the other hand SEO's IP would have a long hard struggle ahead to market itself profitably. Their combined forces is a soup to nuts offering for the world's largest retailers. No split please.

Possibly the main worry to some investors is, can the company cope with the impending massive increase in the size of the business and are there too many fingers (or not enough!) in too many pies? Fundamentally they are a packaging company with a research and dev department who are arguably the best in the world. I may seem to have indicated that I am in favour of a splitting of the bussineses; had SEO been responsible for all the manufacturing of their products then yes, I would have been but I agree that the whole gels pretty well together for the moment. I suspect they could do with an increase in staff numbers in the near future!
