FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Yes - I must renew my passport.

Looking to short from 6,835/45

A certain SB company playing silly buggers with index closing quotes!

Shortie - 25 Jul 2014 10:47 - 16056 of 21973

Think they pretty much all do it Skinny.

skinny - 25 Jul 2014 10:49 - 16057 of 21973

I know - its so bloody blatant (and annoying) and prevented me from closing a FTSE short - hey ho - its Friday and the sun is out.

cynic - 25 Jul 2014 10:56 - 16058 of 21973

not difficult to avoid twitchy fingers today
if dow drops back to 17000, which i think may well be the case, then i'll probably dabble long

skinny - 25 Jul 2014 11:22 - 16059 of 21973

Well that closed it ! :-)

cynic - 25 Jul 2014 17:39 - 16060 of 21973

modest long dow at 16985 ...... wait and see time :-)

goldfinger - 28 Jul 2014 17:58 - 16061 of 21973

Where is everyone. ?

This thread as gone to the dogs.

Just back from holidays :-)

Been laid low by a spot of major heart surgery. Back on parade now though, ready for a of few gentle, therapeutic, months of trading the DOW. Hope to post more as my hand steadies. It is comforting to share trading banter on this thread and I wish I had more to contribute, but am a lightweight compared to most on here.

Speedy recovery Rocky.

jimmy b - 29 Jul 2014 08:17 - 16067 of 21973

Yes same from me Rocky .

Shortie - 29 Jul 2014 09:23 - 16068 of 21973

I'm not spending as much time trading at the moment so haven't been on here much. With the FTSE 20-30 point range bound there's not much appeal to trade.

goldfinger - 29 Jul 2014 09:41 - 16069 of 21973

At least Rocky as woken the thread up. Look after yourself Rocky.

Must admit trading in the last 6 weeks hasnt been too exciting.

Come mid September Im hoping to be back more or less full time. Stocks that is.

cynic - 29 Jul 2014 10:26 - 16070 of 21973

markets are flippety-floppeting so, except for small excursions, i am currently trading very little anywhere - bank manager delighted :-)

Rocky - 29 Jul 2014 11:15 - 16071 of 21973

Thanks everybody. It's good to talk.
I currently find myself modestly short the DOW @ 16983. I can't help but feel The EBOLA spectre that looms in Africa at the moment has been greatly downplayed.

Rocky - 29 Jul 2014 12:00 - 16072 of 21973

Closed out flat. Just watching now.

Rocky - 30 Jul 2014 15:09 - 16073 of 21973
