FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

markets are flippety-floppeting so, except for small excursions, i am currently trading very little anywhere - bank manager delighted :-)

Thanks everybody. It's good to talk.
I currently find myself modestly short the DOW @ 16983. I can't help but feel The EBOLA spectre that looms in Africa at the moment has been greatly downplayed.

Rocky - 29 Jul 2014 12:00 - 16072 of 21973

Closed out flat. Just watching now.

Rocky - 30 Jul 2014 15:09 - 16073 of 21973

Small long DOW @ 16,880. Is there anybody there......?

Rocky - 30 Jul 2014 15:21 - 16074 of 21973

Added @ 16,906

skinny - 30 Jul 2014 15:23 - 16075 of 21973

Yes - just been closed FTSE @6771.

Rocky - 30 Jul 2014 16:48 - 16076 of 21973

Bounce off 16,800 perhaps, or total collapse. FOMC Statement at 7:00 P.M.

skinny - 30 Jul 2014 17:02 - 16077 of 21973

Could be interesting later - I'm short again @ 6,775 unfortunately missed the drop to 6,758.

Tempted to close some as the 10 minute is looking up!

Rocky - 31 Jul 2014 00:35 - 16078 of 21973

Closed DOW long @ 16,907 for +28. Looks like it's just me and you at the moment Skinny. Good hunting!

Shortie - 31 Jul 2014 09:37 - 16080 of 21973

Nice falls this morning... Exited FTSE for a nice profit, keeping an eye on the DAX as it tests support.

cynic - 31 Jul 2014 09:46 - 16081 of 21973

very glad indeed I banked my profit on C+M Index a couple of days back just as I was boarding a flight ..... should have done the same with dow long at the same time but was not concentrating on the markets at the time .... never mind, for it's not a large exposure

cynic - 31 Jul 2014 09:57 - 16082 of 21973

I am clearly very thick indeed for I note cash dow is down 115, but damned if I can determine why
what have I missed?

Rocky - 31 Jul 2014 10:25 - 16083 of 21973

Yes, I thought the DOW would be heading the other way today. Glad to be watching for now.

Shortie - 31 Jul 2014 10:44 - 16084 of 21973

The DOW looks like it's testing 16700+ support at the moment. I'll look to buy at around 16723 ish if it gives up a further 50pts, a break below the cloud and lower trend line however indicates a change in direction and a move lower.

Shortie - 31 Jul 2014 11:08 - 16085 of 21973

Noting the uptrend in gold, the EBOLA outbreak and tensions around the world no doubt will act to strengthen the USD and as such should support safe havens like gold to some degree. A considered buy I think

skinny - 31 Jul 2014 11:10 - 16086 of 21973

Have you got a new ink cartridge? :-)

Shortie - 31 Jul 2014 12:08 - 16087 of 21973

Their screen shots, I use this software called greenshot, you select the area then click upload to imgur then copy and paste the http link... very technical stuff for me!!

skinny - 31 Jul 2014 12:16 - 16088 of 21973

Sorry - I was being facetious.

Shortie - 31 Jul 2014 13:13 - 16089 of 21973
