FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

.

cynic - 03 Oct 2014 16:34 - 16368 of 21973

something of a "get out of jail free" day :-)

cynic - 03 Oct 2014 17:14 - 16369 of 21973

so will next ftse stop be 6580, or will that be a bit too far too fast?

goldfinger - 03 Oct 2014 17:57 - 16370 of 21973

You SILLY BILLY.

read that and said no more than i knew already .... it was a good politician's view

cynic - 04 Oct 2014 09:07 - 16373 of 21973

with wall street closing with a gain of 208 points i saw that cash ftse was only showing +4
that looked out of balance, so i have taken a small ftse long at 6533.4 on the basis that, at least at the opening bell, it will be up a fair bit more than that

goldfinger - 04 Oct 2014 10:27 - 16374 of 21973

What about the Japs Sun Night?

cynic - 04 Oct 2014 10:56 - 16375 of 21973

what about them? ...... market in china is more relevant, but even so, it looked/looks a good bet especially as f/e markets are likely to be solid enough after last night

goldfinger - 04 Oct 2014 11:58 - 16376 of 21973

Are you sure with the Hong Kong probs.

cynic - 04 Oct 2014 12:12 - 16377 of 21973

my wallet said yes, and so did the markets yesterday and last night, albeit that they were due a bounce

goldfinger - 05 Oct 2014 11:16 - 16378 of 21973

Cynic sent you a e-mail re- TUNG.

cynic - 05 Oct 2014 15:40 - 16379 of 21973

have read and inwardly digested

cynic - 04 Oct 2014 09:07 - 16373

Good call @ 6533 long.

cynic - 06 Oct 2014 12:07 - 16381 of 21973

going out for a while, so banked an acceptable 25 point profit

Shortie - 06 Oct 2014 15:02 - 16382 of 21973

I've still got two FTSE100 DFT long positions open. Don't see any reason to take a third right now.

Well done on your profit Cynic.

cynic - 06 Oct 2014 15:24 - 16383 of 21973

hardly rocket science and even less brave but thank you :-)

cynic - 06 Oct 2014 17:48 - 16384 of 21973

added small dow long at 16939.6
would hope to see bounce from this level towards 17,000 once again

==================

well that didn't last long!
limited out at 16990 while i walked home from the office!

wish it was always that quick and easy to knock out a 50 point profit
