THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

N,

"Nous (nouse) and louse".

My previous problem started from expression "not having the brains of a "louse".

===============

That has irritated me from the time I misused it. (Or was it having my mistake pointed out, or just curiosity?)

I took "The Organisation Man" on holidays with me and started to read it.

After half hour I found we had a table to prop it up.

I will attempt it again, but it felt a little like going back to work!

The cancer scare for curry story is a reality. It was because the red dye used in many Tikka Masala meals is used for dying diesel, solvents, plastics and is known to cause cancer and asthma.

"MASSIVE levels of potentially deadly food colourings have been found in Britain's favourite food - chicken tikka massala.

More than half the chicken tikka massala meals served in Indian restaurants are feared to contain illegal amounts of red dye.

The colourings have been linked to hyperactivity in children, asthma and even cancer.

The frightening discovery was made by Trading Standards officers in Surrey who decided to test random samples across the UK.

Officers ordered the distinctive bright red dish from 102 curry houses and sent them to an independent laboratory for testing. From the results, they estimate around 57 per cent of Indian restaurants in the UK use "illegal and potentially dangerous" amounts of dye. One restaurant in Woking, Surrey, used four times the recommended maximum.

Only 44 curry houses of those tested stays within legal limits. "

N,

When something irritates me I tend to regress, and then rationalise, or confabulate to resolve.

Often, just a chuckle is good enough.

Are the lib/dems becoming more and more spineless?

Surprise for many, although I disagree with many of their "proposals", I respected many in their party, but if a party doesn't have the moral courage to stand up and vote for what they believe in, then it is time for them to depart.

I feel that the Lib/dem led by Clegg are drifting into the wilderness.

What an advert of to young and future voters.

So many people are tempted to get away with anything illegal, as they know they 'will' get away with it.
Why aren't these food outlets, just closed down.
On first offense if they were forced to close for say at least 1 month, with a total closure on second offense then I am sure that the problem would soon be none existent.
As with most such official bodies, Trading Standards has either no teeth or is too PC to use them.

This is the same thing that happens in most African countries. It is even worse in Nigera. I have a friend who worked there more than 30 years ago at a senior level. Even then, the local peope in Lagos would catch thieves and burn them to death inside lorry tyres on the beach. There were so many bodies on the beach and by the road to the airport that there were lorries driving around with "the department for the removal of bodies from public places" on the side. Most of these countries are lawless outide the major cities. The result is that local people take the law into their own hands.

It is difficult to think of a solution until these countries become better educated and more civilised. The same thing happened in Europe at similar times of development. We have to remember that many countries including India, Pakistan and many African countries are in a state of development that we were in several hundred years ago. Their ethics and attitudes are just as primitive. The difference between the two levels and standards of culture is largely responsible for the rise in fundamentalism, religious terrorism and ethnic schisms.

greekman - 13 Jun 2012 14:07 - 17083 of 81564

Well said, Haystack,

Also a big problem is that many people from these countries come to the UK bringing their beliefs, cultures with them, hence witchcraft murders, IE the killing and mutilation of the body of the young boy found in the Thames, arranged forced marriages and honour killings etc.
I have no problem with beliefs, culture differences, as long as those beliefs and cultures do not conflict in any harmful way with ours.

As Muslim said to the Sikh and the Sikh said to the Hindu and the Hindu said to the Catholic and the Catholic said to the Protestant and they all said to the Atheist.

(Put your own commas in.)

As the government is cutting expenses by making the costs of the Armed Forces by making them invisible, will the referendum in the Falklands defend it against Argentina or whoever wants it?

Greek,

The problem with some, is that they don't realise when they are being offensive.

(That is more worrying than the insults.

SO WHY DON'T YOU STOP DOING IT THEN ?
