FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

splat - 18 Dec 2014 16:22 - 17131 of 21973

short Dow @ 17,573

splat - 18 Dec 2014 16:23 - 17132 of 21973

Also short UKX @ 6,453

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 16:51 - 17133 of 21973

Bulls are definitely out in force today...

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 16:56 - 17134 of 21973

I've got an order to short the DAX @9840.

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 17:00 - 17135 of 21973

Apparently short @9840.2.

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 17:07 - 17136 of 21973

I been looking at going short all day and all I've seen is new daily highs... They look well overdone but no sign of a reversal yet!!

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 17:12 - 17137 of 21973

DAX may make @9910 at this rate.

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 17:13 - 17138 of 21973

On the daily chart though they all look like a pull back to the 30DMA is due so puts 6600 on the cards for the FTSE...

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 17:14 - 17139 of 21973

Its been a if in doubt stay out one today...

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 17:15 - 17140 of 21973

The DAX is already above that.

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 17:20 - 17141 of 21973

Wall St not far off either but look at how far the FTSE is lagging... Suggests to me its got more upside potential right now..

Yes 2nd best day of the year for my SIPP & ISA - only prevented from being the best by LLOY & BT.A.

DAX coming my way.

Chris Carson - 18 Dec 2014 17:25 - 17143 of 21973

goldfinger - 18 Dec 2014 20:38 - 17147 of 21973

You may have nits, Cynic you can get a special shampoo for that.

splat - 18 Dec 2014 21:00 - 17148 of 21973

I suppose it could be that in the short term I made the wrong call :-)

Seymour Clearly - 18 Dec 2014 21:08 - 17149 of 21973

I normally try to trade the last hour or so of the dow but was too late home. Shame to have missed the last 15 minutes :-(

goldfinger - 18 Dec 2014 21:13 - 17150 of 21973

Not too sure the Santa rally is here yet.

Could just be a 72 hour rally especially with the Greeks and Ruskys in a mess.

Glad its Friday tomorrow may help the bull case.
