FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I've had one FTSE trade 6365.2 - closed 6389.2.

Options expiry shortly I believe - may be a bit more than the normal damp squib!

On edit - expiry tomorrow!

No comment on DOW Cynic, FTSE resistance still at 6420, with 6503 and 6538 above this, resistance 6412 follow by the pivot level at 6312 approx.

One for my fellow chartists..!

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 13:29 - 17107 of 21973

Shortie where is the Fib option in City?

I can't find it in the demo interface.

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 13:37 - 17108 of 21973

add to charts dropdown next to chart time then its on the drawing toolbar

Chris Carson - 18 Dec 2014 13:42 - 17109 of 21973

Shortie - Spreads seem a lot wider for stocks on City. Quarterly contract for BVIC was 15 pips this morning compared to Cap Spreads just under 3. If I decide to fund it probably like you just use for Indeces. This is just first glance observation will take a proper look over holiday. Cheers.

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 13:48 - 17110 of 21973

Was that out of hours trading Chris? Showing as the below on mine now.. Margin showing as 15% on City another factor.

Chris Carson - 18 Dec 2014 14:08 - 17111 of 21973

No I read it wrong Shortie my fault. Cap Spreads BVIC MAR 264.7 - 265.7 big difference.

cynic - 18 Dec 2014 14:09 - 17112 of 21973

about the same as for IG CFDs, though quite often that tightens to 0.50p

skinny - 18 Dec 2014 14:10 - 17113 of 21973

AT 265.7 I'd buy a million!

Chris Carson - 18 Dec 2014 14:10 - 17114 of 21973

Talking crap ignore that last post 656.68 - 660.31 wee bit tighter.

cynic - 18 Dec 2014 14:15 - 17115 of 21973

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 14:26 - 17116 of 21973

I think I posted their results on the 26th, but if I could buy a million @265.7....

cynic - 18 Dec 2014 14:35 - 17118 of 21973

just taken 30 points on my "worst" dow long, so quite happy about that

Shortie - 18 Dec 2014 14:36 - 17119 of 21973

DOWs overbought, I think it'll fall and pull the FTSE down this afternoon.

cynic - 18 Dec 2014 14:37 - 17120 of 21973

with the markets this volatile, it's quite hard to judge what will happen - eg yesterday evening and this morning's surge
