Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

2517,
Have you visited an Ophthalmologist recently?
========
I think the main cause of the public's "depression" is due to watching this stumbling government taking the country further and further into debt and tinkering around the outsides of the minor problems.
They have not sense of direction and do nothing but attempt to scapegoat the more defenceless in society as deviations from their own failures of policies.
I think the present UK government s is the most disastrous that I have seen in the last 50years.
My own feelings are, if Dave and Georgie Boy continue as they are doing, at the next election the tories party will be washed out. They will be left with a small rump or far right euro-phobic supporters
The “middle classes” are going to be the receptors of the bills for present disastrous economic policies.
Business and industry are not investing because they see the fallacies of the economic strategies. They have no faith in this government.

Another set of U-Turns.
"Government cancels planned 3p fuel duty increase"
Borrowing up again receipts down.

Bank's King says 'pessimistic' about worsening economy
Sir Mervyn King: "I am pessimistic and I am particularly concerned"
Bank of England governor Sir Mervyn King has said he is "pessimistic" about the short-term prospects for the global economy.
He also said he had been struck by how much the situation had changed in the past six weeks.
Sir Mervyn said he was particularly concerned about the worsening situation in Asia and other emerging markets.
His comments followed official data showing the government borrowed more than expected in May.
Excluding financial interventions such as bank bailouts, it borrowed £17.9bn, compared
with £15.2bn in May 2011.
A 7% fall in income tax receipts contributed to the rise in borrowing.

An Ophthalmologist is an eye M.D., a medical doctor who is specialized in eye and vision care. I will own up, did have to look it up. :-))

The UK is not particularly overcrowded anymore than London is. Paris has a much higher density of people than London.
It is also surprising to note that we could easily get the entire population of the world onto the Isle of Wight. The big problem for the world is not the size of the population, but the resources to service and feed it.

Perhaps, I am referring to tinted glasses.
------------
Some wear "smoke-tinted" glasses, some "rose-tinted" glasses.
I have been given "dark glasses", to stop me seeing too much.

Dreams,
Have a look at proctologist.
That is a real winner at a party.

Can you substantiate that comment with facts? Maybe the actual debt figure when Labour exited power and the situation today? How much additional debt have the coalition created or even paid back?

chuckles, it's a fact that the national debt has increased during the current administration. I have no idea to what extent, but there was no avoiding it, the Labour gov left nothing, they had spent the lot, and joked about it. Welfare payments thanks to Labour policy of aiming for a bedrock of voters, went spirralling out of control, and the economy, and therefore the tax take was down. So austerity and borrowing are the result. Had Labour got in the ED Balls-up twins would have borrowed even more.

Haystack, I was not talking about the cities in the UK particularly. OK if you want to live in a city it doesn't make any difference which city. France is a much bigger country than Britain and there are loads of places in France where you can escape to without spending your day sitting in traffic jams trying to get there. Actually I'm not sure where you get some of your statistics from? Quote -"It is also surprising to note that we could easily get the entire population of the world onto the Isle of Wight." Presumably that means eveyone standing together back to back, or toe to toe.

George, I already knew the answer but was interested in fred1news take. I'm a political atheist, I have no allegiance to any party and will happily vote for who I think will do the best for the country. I can't understand anyone who is radically left, right or somewhere in between. Radicals are the bane of every society in the world. They don't listen to other views, won't change their stance and prevent progress. Even from the few posts I have read on this thread, fred1new has a thing about the cons and libdems and doesn't seem shy of posting disingenuous comments. I said before this was an odd thread, fred1new posted 'may you drown in your own bile', hypocritical in the extreme as every political post he makes contains nothing but bile.
So far I've noted that tanker is nuts and fred1new is a hypocritical, political radical who doesn't seem to understand the effect of exchange rate fluctuations on exports and imports. Everyone else by comparison seems quite sensible!
