THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Chuckles,

I will try to be brief, but replies, other than the obvious, tend to be longer than the questions or challenges.

I am also a political atheist and never been a supporter or member of any specific party, but have been interested in political issues since my early teens and watch¸(even flirted) with the political ideologies over that period.

I have respect for the values of many "leading" politicians of all the major parties, that includes Tory, Lib/Dem, Labour, and various Irish, Scottish and Welsh parties, but also I have been critical of the leadership, policies and drifts of all those parties and some of the ideologues of both the “left” and “right within those parties.

If you read previous postings prior to the last election, you will see that I was critical of Labour policies and legislation and amongst other things condemned PFIs. (Many were critical of my views then, but now are changing their opinions.).
I am scathing of the present government “leadership”, as seeing much of their policies and statement and posturing as political motivated and more to do with maintaining their positions within the hierarchy of their party than for the benefit of the country as a whole. (When in government, I think the leadership should be acting for the good of the government as a whole, not a fraction of it who “gave” or will “keep” them in power.)

One of my antagonisms to the present government is that it appears to be stoking up the “them and us” mentality of divide and rule. I would prefer a cohesive and relatively harmonious society.

The “welfare state” in “modern world” is I think a necessity. It has its problems, waste and abuses and sometimes policies and actions taken for the “best” reasons proved to be incorrect.

Also, there is wasted money, but sometimes what is labelled “waste” is based on personal “values” and “ignorance” of the “costs” of not doing similar.
But rather than destruction of the “welfare state”, I think it would be more sensible to moderate it by “evolution” the addressing the weaknesses and faults within it. (Gradual adjustments.)

But condemnation of the “less able, or less endowed” in society for “sponging” on the state, when many of the “elite” spend more on a week’s holiday island in the sun than they are drawing on the dole for a year is less than sensitive.

I think the present government is stoking up social and economic problems for the UK by its short term policies and shows little foresight.
------------------------------------

¬¬Bile.

I used the term in reference to “postings” made on “immigrants” etc..
The postings were, in my opinion, trying to deliberately incite “racial hatred”, and based on mistaken ideology, false information and were/are politically motivated.

My use of “bile” was deliberate, but substitute “bitterness” if you wish.
(I would prefer the poster not to make that type of remark, but with difficulty, respect his right to do so.)

Returning to scathing of this government, I would recommend reading the to-day’s press coverage for Osborne’s U-turn budget, now that the Murdoch Press/tory agreements have been torn up.

I don’t think I am alone in my opinions, but I am prepared to review them.

Paddy replies "no tanks, I wouldn’t have the room, I've only got a small garden."
