rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

FTSE has struggled up to a pretty hefty hurdle at just over 6800
in the recent past, it has stumbled here, so i am certainly unwilling to take any postion, but it should be monitored carefully

starting to watch DOW
if 18,000 hit, which is far from impossible, then may have a small dabble though im not convinced that will the bottom

YUM! :-)
Those tech giant results are pouring out. Microsoft posts loss of $3.19bn on restructuring. Nokia, weak demand for Windows, and job cuts all not helping. Apple out also et al............... we know where this is going ;

certainly made a wrong call ..... it's only a small position, but AAP's numbers have smashed that one, and indeed several other tech results met with considerable disappointment
after hours, dow dumped further 50 to 17,865 .....need to contemplate whether to sit it out or cut or even reverse
