Apparantly the MM's are trying to drum up a few shares before results are out..I can tell you we are ahead of expectations and have done very well in terms of customer growth and executive applications in the last 6 months or so,in fact weve done well all year.By the way our mobile deal has just got better and weve reduced our landline talk plans so more good news..We now offer 4 p/m line rental, this should surely bring in some good results..

Check this out folks,interesting!!

Sales army pays at Telecom plus
Midas, Mail on Sunday
14 March 2004

GETTING sales to grow without incurring high costs is a problem for small companies, but utilities reseller Telecom plus appears to have hit on an interesting solution.

Instead of relying on expensive marketing and direct sales forces, the company uses a network of independent distributors to sign up customers for its cut-price phone, gas, electricity and internet services.

These independent distributors, which currently number 12,000, mostly part-time, then take a cut of the amount spent by the customers they have signed up.

It has proved an effective way to build up more than 160,000 customers for Telecom plus, where chief executive Charles Wigoder controls 25% of the shares.

Wigoder previously founded the People's Phone retail chain and sold it to Vodafone.

Using independent distributors in this manner is also a cheap way to acquire clients, with the company's administrative costs running at less than ten% of revenues.

The growth in customers has translated into rapid rises in profits. For the financial year that closes at the end of this month, analysts expect profits of about 10.7 million, up from 6 million last time.

The shares closed last week at 337 1/2p, valuing the group at 206 million. A forecast dividend* of 9.5p leaves them yielding a prospective

Trading under the Utility Warehouse brand, about half the company's turnover comes from fixed telephony, with a third from mobile. But energy is growing quickly and customer discounts increase when they sign up for more services.

Midas verdict: Growth companies do not come cheap and Telecom plus shares trade at a heady 29 times forecast earnings per share*. However, the multiple does fall sharply on expectations for future years. Telecom plus has an interesting business model that should be capable of creating a much bigger business in the next few years. The share price has doubled over the past year, but has drifted lower from a high of 407 1/2p in January, so now looks a good time to buy.

A lot of people are asking why the weakness in the price of TEP, well I for one dont think it is anything other than general market sentiment of a weak nature that we have seen over the past few weeks. When this one moves it tends to move in a big way either way.

Its certainly not a different company than it was 3 weeks back.

This is what Robbie Burns the Frequenttrader had to say about it today......

The Mail seems to be tipping my whole portfolio at the moment - they tipped Telecom Plus last week. Maybe it will be Vanco or Fenner at the weekend?

Talking of Fenner that's up a bit today and it slowly seems to be gathering a head of steam. If we can clear 105p, 120 looks on the cards.

Ashtenne continues to go higher as does Gyrus. Carrs Milling should report soon and that should lift the shares. AMEC looks strong.

Telecom Plus is suffering from weakness but it always does when there's not been news for a while, a statement is due soon and that should help lift the shares again.ENDS

A statement soon. Off the cuff Im not sure wether this is a trading statement or part year results, either way Im sure we will get very positive comments.

Stick in there.

cheers GF.

Free calls sounds great for the customers but if the customers are not paying for the calls how will the distributors get paid ?
I realise that this offer is only to other Telecom Plus customers so how many Distributors will want to get existing customers to encourage their friends and family to sign up knowing that they will lose the commissions on the calls?
I know there is gas and electricity to consider, but I would have thought that with free calls some Distributors will see their commissions reduced.
Ultimately as with the customers the distributors are the life blood of the Company
Its a great business plan and a cheap way of getting customers but if they go down the road of free calls to compete it might backfire
I hope Telecom Plus is not shooting itself in the foot here
Just a thought

Tplus Guy - 05 Apr 2004 14:10 - 204 of 242

I imagine they are hoping the customer will take more services..Me for example always get the energy along with the phone deal..When i find out more i will let you know.

Mark

Did you take up the offer??
