BEST LAWYER STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE AND PROBABLY THE CENTURY.


Charlotte , North Carolina

A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and
expensive cigars, then insured
them against, among other things, fire.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile
of these great cigars and without yet having made
even his first premium payment on the policy the
lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.

In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were
lost ‘in a series of small fires.’

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the
obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars
in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued and WON!

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the
insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The
judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a
policy from the company, which it had warranted
that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed
that it would insure them against fire, without
defining what is considered to be unacceptable ‘fire’ and
was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal
process, the insurance company accepted the ruling
and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the
cigars lost in the ‘fires’.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART…

After the lawyer cashed the cheque, the insurance
company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!

With his own insurance claim and testimony from the
previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of
intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced
to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the First Place winner
in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest.

He must have the same legal team who advises this government.

Perhaps, they should refresh themselves by looking at previous adjudications and appeals.

Boris pays tribute to PM 'Dave'

Householders who react with force when confronted by burglars are to get more legal protection, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has said.

"Grossly disproportionate" force will still be against the law in England and Wales, but the bar will be higher than the current "proportionate" force test.

Prime Minister David Cameron said more protection for people who confront burglars would provide "certainty".

Bedford couple unwittingly grow cannabis

An elderly couple have unwittingly grown the "biggest cannabis plant" police officers had seen after buying what they thought was an innocuous shrub from a car boot sale.

A few years back when I was wandering around Europe I stopped over in the Dordogne for months on end for 4-5 years.

If you look at the balconies and the gardens you would see cannabis grown in pots and sometimes between the runner beans etc..

There was a fairly light touch by the police unless they stopped you car etc.. and the smell was too strong.

Even, went to a party one night where the local "dignitaries" were sharing "plugs" while the rest of us were on "red".

I have never tried it. Don't know why not. But listening to the tory speaches some of the "old boys" club are still using it.

They should make all drugs legal so no police time will be wasted and its price will crash too, reducing crime rate.

Anyone who is interested in taking drugs is doing it, just at high prices and illegally. Why not to make it legal and control it rather than fighting against it.

Alcohol is cheap and easily accessible. But death rates from alcohol "abuse" is higher.

Food, is relatively cheaper in this country and problems of obesity increase in number every day.

There is something to be said for having soft drugs to licence and sold by the "state".
