How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Very sorry to hear you can't make it Ruth, was looking forward to it. Hope the issues are sorted.

Just set up the room and currently testing the connection when I saw your message.

Will let you know if any dresses are worn!

Will touch base after the course to make sure any questions are answered.

Harlosh - 26 Nov 2004 22:18 - 192 of 10502

Had a good day on the course today. I've a lot to do to bring myself up to speed. Just like to thank Scrip for the effort he put into the preparation and presentation of the course. He's a gentleman.

Limpsfield - 27 Nov 2004 09:59 - 194 of 10502

It was a packed day that carried on till 7 pm - I've always been confused by how the betting exchanges works and strategies to make money out of them but Peter explained it all with plenty of different strategies and real time examples. A fantastic day and roll on this afternoon's races. Thanks again.

Ruth - 27 Nov 2004 15:43 - 196 of 10502

Fundy:-)shame, hes got cracking legs:-)
Spoke to Shogun last night, he said it was well worth the fee, and thats coming from a scouser:-) so it must have been good, :-)

Fundamentalist - 27 Nov 2004 16:59 - 197 of 10502

Well

total of 9 races - 7 in profit, 1 breakeven and 1 loss. Not getting full value for the trend moves due to lack of instant placing as per system

Scripophilist - 27 Nov 2004 20:03 - 198 of 10502

Glad to hear the theory and practice is translating well into the real world. Though that said, trading in front of all the other attendees was probably good practice and more pressure than in your own home!!

For me, I enjoyed the day and meeting everybody and of course talking you through the course. So glad I could make it after being so Ill earlier in the week.

Going to have a relaxing weekend this weekend and start Monday with a fresh set of eyes.

Scripophilist - 27 Nov 2004 20:08 - 199 of 10502

I have uploaded the refresher used during the day to the URL used during the course. (Does that make sense?). Anyhow if it does not drop me an email and I will confirm the URL for you.

DocProc - 27 Nov 2004 20:51 - 200 of 10502

Sorry I had to miss this course. Hopefully, I will not miss the next one.

I know of this adjustable 'auto-refresh' facility:-

http://www.incatec.com/Autorefresh/autorefresh.asp

Hope that helps.

DocProc - 27 Nov 2004 21:10 - 201 of 10502

Am now 'greened up' on Strictly Come Dancing. My best winner would be Julian Clary, followed by Jill Halfpenny, Denise Lewis and with a small return if Aled Jones wins.

jeffmack - 27 Nov 2004 21:46 - 202 of 10502

I see the Glomtc course shows as a sponsored site if you search for betting exchange on google

Bones - 27 Nov 2004 21:57 - 203 of 10502

Can someone explain why it takes a full minute for the Betfair website to download when every other site takes a couple of seconds? Bear it in mind if you are logging on to close a bet with time running out :)

Kayak - 27 Nov 2004 22:35 - 204 of 10502

The new betfair site is quite complicated stuff Bones, with a lot to download. It only takes a few seconds here mind you. If you've got a decent amount of memory on the system (>256Mb) and a good ISP all you can do is wait.

Bones - 27 Nov 2004 22:58 - 205 of 10502

Kayak. Thanks. Like I say, most sites take 3 or 4 seconds whereas it is nearly a minute for all the features on Betfair to arrive. Still, as you say, maybe there is good reason.......!

PS I have 512mb and AOL as ISP

czechmate - 28 Nov 2004 09:27 - 206 of 10502

Sorry, all, this is off topic - Bones, just tried to send e-mail to you, but immediately returned. Have you changed address?

Bones - 28 Nov 2004 12:52 - 207 of 10502

Czechmate - so nice to hear from you! You can send an email via Moneyam as my address is on the system. Just click on "Bones". Your email isn't on the system so I don't have an option to send an email via Moneyam when I click on your username. Look forward to hearing from you!

FreeFox - 29 Nov 2004 09:54 - 208 of 10502

Dont often post on the threads but thought Id state how brilliant I thought the course was last Friday. Thanks very much Peter (Scrip), your enthusiasm and willingness to share your knowledge was evident throughout the very long day.

Over the weekend, already up around 8% on my bank just by focusing on the horses alone and havent even got round to the football yet! Roll-on this afternoons races, just have to work out how to balance it with the day-trading now!
