Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Hays,
I do not like "censorship" other than self "censorship".
The problem with the present Press regulations is that the press able to abuse the weaker members of "society", who may not have the wit or wherewithal to challenge the false “allegations”, which are made against them.
This has led to the numerous abuses by the larger mass circulation papers. Also the concentration of the media and press in a smaller number of hands is dangerous.
Although, I would prefer it different, I think a regulatory body with “statutory” power to make “proper” investigations and if a misdemeanour, serious abuse of power, or more serious criminal action has taken place, to be able to refer to the courts, or be able to bring in appropriate fines etc..
The “regulatory” body has to be “politically” independent, not at the whim of any incumbent government, but to represent current public opinion, but not dependent on it.
How one accomplished the structure and membership of such a body is a problem.

Early days yet but sounds like another black day for democracy in this Country after listening to the Leveson conclusions so far.

I would love to see the Babbling Brooks and the Cameroon's LOL Text Messages.
Perhaps, they would like to be back in contact.

Hays,
I think you mean, the tories don't care for the Leveson's report.
Might effect the party funds and propaganda outlets.
This cons party's leadership is smelling fishier and fishier to many.
A bit like a tub of old herrings.
Cameron should go for another ride with whichever Hunt he prefers.

Reminds me "birds of feather flock together".
How are your feathers lately.

I reckon that a plan devised by the British government is urgently required to build a dam across the straits between Spain-Gibraltar and Morocco backed up by all Med nations and supported by the EU......this is very urgent and if started now would not cost a fortune with so many nations involved....now..Whales ...Tuna-fish and such... all fish migration to be included in such a plan to dam the movement of water between the Atlantic and the Med...but it is vital to start now and this includes a passage-way (autoroute-motorway-superfast-train)..and tidal driven energy for the nearest countries to be included in this massive plan....this should be started now and not wait for the flooding that awaits the southern European countries and North Africa..THIS IS URGENT.

It's not in the Con party's interest to regulate the press as most of the press is the propaganda machine of the Con party.. always was and they want it to continue that way.

A phone for Friday nights.
Bend me, shape me - flexible phones 'out by 2013'
Imagine treating your phone like a piece of paper.
Roll it up. Drop it. Squish it in your backpack. Step on it - without any damage.
Researchers are working on just such handsets - razor-thin, paper-like and bendable.
There have already been prototypes, attracting crowds at gadget shows.
Sea-level rise from polar ice melt finally quantified
Melting of polar ice sheets has added 11mm to global sea levels over the past two decades, according to the most definitive assessment so far.
More than 20 polar research teams have combined forces to produce estimates of the state of the ice in Greenland and Antarctica in a paper in Science.

Free press, for whom?
The press, is in general, is made up of organisations driven by profit driven motivation.
Nothing wrong in that, but I would not like my local market to be flogging heroin and cocaine on its shelves.
I am glad that there is statutory regulations which "attempts to, or prevents this from happening. Also, I am happy to have a legal restrictions back up the regulations to reduce the opportunistic mavericks who wish to chance their luck.
