if you're in at 42 and have been for 3 years, then why are you complaining and how come you have not noticed that oil stocks in general are volatile and (perhaps) that AFR have increased 2.75-fold in that time

I'm complaining because they're going backwards. 2.75- fold is not a spectacular since the recovery in 2009. We are now trailing the FTSE 250 by 20% since that time and for a growth stock that is'nt great. All midcap and smaller oil stocks are indeed volatile but some like GKP, RHP just get it right. Did not buy 150k in one go by the way.

getting it up through the 150/170 level may not be easy. theres some stiff resistance
there. it needs to penetrate and stay up to be successful (LoL)
for gap theorists,i.e. gaps in price on the chart have to be filled then we have one sitting down at
87sh level. may or may not happen. please dyor. todays close 124.70
good luck

Scared no cautious yes. Suppose the less you have the more cavalier you can afford to be.

Investec note :
"FY11 results were in line with our forecast and we leave our TP and rec unchanged – with 28% upside even post the 53% rise in the shares YTD. 2P reserves up 132% to 185 mmboe and the group is firmly on track for 2012 production of 42,000 – 46,000 boepd. Currently participating in high impact wells offshore Ghana and onshore Kurdistan region of Iraq in a programme we value at 62p risked.
Production hiccup at Ebok overcome. Net average working interest production in 2011 averaged 19,154 boepd (increase of 34% on 2010: 14,333 boepd) as a result of the successful commissioning of the initial phases of the Ebok field development. However, longer than anticipated periods of facilities-related downtime at the Ebok field owing to simultaneous operations and other logistical-related delays impacted average production during the period. Independently assessed recoverable reserve estimates at the Ebok field have remained unchanged, and Afren was able to increase output at the field sharply during the fourth quarter, to achieve an exit production rate ahead of guidance. Full year 2012 net production to average between 42,000 and 46,000 boepd. Longer term, Afren has a pipeline of large-scale development projects from known 2P and 2C reserves and resources today that is capable of delivering net production growth to 100,000 boepd by 2017.
Multi-well drilling programme underway. Nunya-1 prospect targeting a Cretaceous aged reservoir similar to Tullow’s Jubille field, on the Keta block offshore Ghana, is the highest impact exploration well to be drilled with the success case almost 66p/share. This well was delayed by damage to the Transocean Marianas rig. Additional drilling in Kurdistan, offshore Madagascar, Tanzania, Nigeria, the JDZ and onshore drilling in Kenya and Kurdistan is planned during 2012."
