How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Evening Funda, I tend to lay the 4/5 fav @ around 6/8:1, had a few close calls this pm, some were leading at times! (ref odds, did'nt eye ball them run) could have had much better odds had I waited for the off, only greened up twice, the remainder just let them run...and loose...
Being able to 'see them run' would have made winning even easier! maybe

Evening All,
Apologies for not contributing recently as I've seemed to have lost my bottle over the last week or so since returning from time away.
However, I had a monumental win with Chelsea yesterday(sorry Scrip - I did think of you but not for very long.. LOL)
I've also done really well with the tennis too, although Federer gave me a really big scare earlier!
During the weekend I managed to analyse my success rate with Betfair as I now have over 3 months of Profit/Loss figures. It has thrown up some very interesting data. My 4 most popular events are Football, Tennis, Cricket and Finance(intra-day Footsie).
Finance.
My success rate here is pretty dire(20/72), despite having live data at hand. I just can't seem to master this at all!
Football.
54/72. A much better win ratio. However, I'm down overall on football owing to a loss of epic proportions on one game.
By far and away my most profitable sports are cricket(18/21) and tennis (38/41).
I think I've got tennis pretty well sussed out although I'll probably get hammered sooner or later!
By looking at my P/Ls it has identified a lot of my strengths and weaknesses (which unfortunately I still have too many!).
I hope the above is of interest to you all.

Chartist,
I didn't see the game but on it with Betfair and had the live scores on another window which wasnt refreshing on a live basis.
I agree with you that odds were all over the show for both players. I was scalping for ticks on Federer near the beginning at which the game turned against him. I had to wait till later before I could resume. He nearly cost me a fortune but I forgive him for finally winning through!

did a similar analysis of my progress recently and found that my results on the football are very hit and miss and overall im not making money on this. i have made some small profits from playing with other sports - golf, tennis, darts, snooker, cricket, rugby etc but the majority of my success and profits come from the horse racing - i am now very confident that i will make a profit every day on the horses and for now am trying to focus on this - could all go pear shaped now you can use AB Pro in running though

Bet on 18 races today, bf cancelled the other one?? 13 profitable 5 small loses
up another 83.3%, mostly layed but backed 2/3. Some don't half drift before the off to the tune of 20/30% in 10 mins!
I'm 100% on the horses from now on loose too much away trading other events...

Sure, very busy at the moment so sorry for the lack of posting but really rushed off my feet with many things. Have been very busy each afternoon on the horses as well. I am having an excellent start to the year.
I am not around tomorrow but should be back for the footy later in the day so will try and catch up on emails etc then, I am about 165 behind at the moment!!
Some of you who attended the course will get an email this week. The first of three pieces of software are going into beta this week. When you see the full app thats on your doorstep it'll blow your balls off!! I look forward to communicating it in due course.

I've actually started doing two horses at a time in one direction, you will find one drifts and one comes in so if you are skilled enough you can spot and take advantage. Low priced favourites that are not near to each other seem to work the best.

If anybody is interested in cricket take a look at www.cricinfo.com
Click onto the live scores section as it has, in my opinion, the most comprehensive statistics, run rates, etc. It also refreshes and updates much more quickly than other so called "live" sites.

Picked up a nice profit earlier on India/Pakistan game but I'll probably give some of it back on the football tonight.
Harlosh,
Hope you found the cricket site useful. You mentioned not so long ago about a night out with Fundy and yourself. I'm certainly up for it. I owe Fundy a drink but my generosity will extend to include you too.

Will this come up on Betfair? Probably not.... Anyway. Here goes:
While there appears to be no clear favourite to succeed Pope John Paul II as the 264th leader of the Roman Catholic Church, a number of cardinals are believed to have the calibre, charisma and political clout to prevail at a conclave of their peers.
The Italians
Dionigi Tettamanzi: Aged 71, the Italian-born archbishop of Milan - the world's most populous diocese with five million souls - is a strong contender, especially if cardinals return to tradition and plump for an Italian. A noted theologian, his several books on moral issues help give him a high profile.
Angelo Scola: At 63, the patriarch, or archbishop of Venice, is part of the church's younger set. His involvement with the conservative Catholic movement "Communion and Liberation" lends him political weight. A moderate, he is seen as a front-runner.
Tarcisio Bertone: Another member of the Italian set, Bertone, 70, sealed his conservative credentials with a scathing attack on the best-selling The Da Vinci Code for denigrating church tenets. A former deputy leader of the powerful Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, he is archbishop of Genoa.
Angelo Sodano: As Vatican secretary of state for 15 years, he is at the centre of the political intrigue at the Holy See. Held posts in Ecuador, Uruguay and Chile as a Vatican diplomat. At 77, is vice-president of the college of cardinals which will elect the next pope.
Giovanni Battista Re: At 71, he is number three in the Roman Curia. Close to John Paul II as prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, and head of the pontifical commission for Latin America. Pulled off the difficult political trick of organising a successful papal visit to the Holy Land in 2000.
The Indian
Ivan Dias: If elected, would become pope within days of his 69th birthday on April 14. Dias, archbishop of Mumbai, carries the hopes of the Indian sub-continent. A friend of Mother Teresa, he was elevated to cardinal by John Paul II in 2001.
The German speakers
Joseph Ratzinger: Ratzinger, at 77, is many people's favourite. With his trademark white hair, this staunch German conservative vigorously opposed the South American Church's liberation theology. Known as "God's Rottweiler", his position as the enforcer of church doctrine means he has hefty political and spiritual credentials.
'God's Rottweiler' is many people's favourite
Christoph Schoenborn: A youngster at 60, the archbishop of Vienna is seen as a moderate. Follows in John Paul II's footsteps as an ecumenical bridge-builder with eastern orthodoxy. Played a key role in the crisis affecting the Austrian Catholic Church when his predecessor was accused of paedophilia.
The African
Francis Arinze: For many, the best non-Italian bet. Arinze, 72, is the only African candidate considered as a possible successor to John Paul II. Knows the Vatican well as leader of the Congregation for Divine Worship. A conservative, would become the second-ever African pope after Gelasius I (492-496).
The Latin Americans
Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiago: As a group, the Latin Americans rival the Italians as a powerful voting bloc and could deliver the continent's first pontiff. The Honduran cardinal, 62, is the youngest of them. A charismatic leader, he campaigned with Bono for debt relief. A staunch defender of Latin American countries, which between them account for half the world's Catholics, 50 percent of them in poverty. Holds a pilot's licence and he plays a mean saxophone.
Claudio Hummes: Archbishop of Sao Paolo since 1998, Hummes, 70, came to Italy and obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 1962 before specialising in ecumenism. His tough side came out when he opened his church to trade unionists fighting the 1964 - 1985 military regime, and he was made a cardinal in 2001. He has directed his evangelical efforts in Brazil to wooing back disaffected Catholics in Brazil and championing the poor.
Dario Castrillon Hoyos: The 75-year-old Colombian is prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Clergy, heading the 400 000 priests worldwide, and was a close collaborator of John Paul II. A member of Opus Dei and the Legionnaires of Christ, he has rejected the philosophies of Rousseau, Kant, Marx and Freud "for spreading an erroneous vision of original sin".
I've no idea of the odds on any of these guys making it for promotion to the Catholic Church's top job, or even if it's possible to place a bet.
Anyone else got a personal favourite cardinal or know of any other possibilities?
