FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 06 Jul 2016 13:08 - 20823 of 21973

DOW
nestling on that important 17,750 mark, so wait for reaction to the NFP numbers due shortly

Claret Dragon - 06 Jul 2016 16:49 - 20824 of 21973

Wıld swıngs on Dow. 100 poınts up and down. Not borıng thats for sure.

cynic - 06 Jul 2016 17:41 - 20825 of 21973

have been out since about 15:00 and i see all sorts of strange things

DOW has recovered from well below to well above 17,550
DAX remains below the important 9,440 mark despite a strongish recovery after the close
FTSE has clawed its way back above 6,500 but only just

Claret Dragon - 07 Jul 2016 09:53 - 20826 of 21973

Gone short on FTSE 100

6580

cynic - 07 Jul 2016 12:11 - 20827 of 21973

good call

Claret Dragon - 07 Jul 2016 13:10 - 20828 of 21973

Moved my stop down so ın profıt but undecıded about Dow today.

cynic - 07 Jul 2016 14:45 - 20829 of 21973

all a bit topsy turvy with no real direction

HARRYCAT - 07 Jul 2016 15:45 - 20830 of 21973

As you said earlier, NFP tomorrow would seem to be the trigger for a swing one way or the other.

cynic - 07 Jul 2016 17:45 - 20831 of 21973

confess that i had lost track of time as am holiday :-)

i see the expected number for NFP is 180,000, so bear that in mind at lunchtime tomorrow

Claret Dragon - 08 Jul 2016 12:02 - 20832 of 21973

More volatılty today I would expect wıth NFP ıs ıt comes ın way below agaın lıke last month.

cynic - 08 Jul 2016 12:34 - 20833 of 21973

no idea how the market will react no matter what the numbers

HARRYCAT - 08 Jul 2016 13:01 - 20834 of 21973

30 mins we should know NFP. Hoping for a good figure to boost the Friday afternoon trading.

HARRYCAT - 08 Jul 2016 13:30 - 20835 of 21973

NFP:
Expected : 180,000
Actual : 287,000
4.9% unemployment rate

DOW futures +104

Claret Dragon - 08 Jul 2016 15:13 - 20836 of 21973

Not too far off all time hıgh agaın.

cynic - 08 Jul 2016 16:24 - 20837 of 21973

but must also heighten the prospect of US interest rate rise in the more immediate future

Claret Dragon - 08 Jul 2016 17:11 - 20838 of 21973

Gone short 18100

Chris Carson - 08 Jul 2016 18:13 - 20839 of 21973

Think your pxxxxxg against the wind today Claret, but you never know, may get a sell off towards the bell. Went long Gold 1357 which I will hold over weekend.
