Whats happened to old Socs?

8 Ball - 23 Sep 2003 00:09 - 2140 of 23498

He came over a little queer after seeing them lovely legs.

This_is_me - 23 Sep 2003 19:05 - 2141 of 23498

Hilary that was quite a shock - that last picture is just like the wife's mother! Thought for a minute that PPL had cloned her out of her ashes and the horror of it had made them give up!!!!!

PS told the wife that one and Me shins still hurt!!

Hello folks, it's old Socks recovering from a computer fatal error. This message is sent to you from a brand new, nearly all singing and dancing PC. When I can the darned thing to work properly, I never had this problem with Windows ME, this XP Home is a disaster area.

Glad to see you are all alive and kicking but must dash now, got some more button pressing to do.

Tara for now.

vasey - 24 Sep 2003 08:24 - 2143 of 23498

Poor Socs! I remember upgrading to XP Home a few months ago. Lost contacts book in Outlook Express and had to get a friend to 'reconstitute' some important files that were still there but XP couldn't open! A stressful time. Keep at it though. It will work eventually.

Having said that, I'm told I need a complete reinstall. (No chance! I still remember the last one!)

This_is_me - 24 Sep 2003 21:20 - 2144 of 23498

Computers are wonderfull things, just like wives - when they do what they are told! They are prone to take fits of going slow and crash frequently, often need new expensive bits, are frustrating, don't look as good as more recent models etc. I think that computers suffer from PMT too since they go barmy for no good reason!

(I am definately not telling the wife this one!!)

Socrates - 24 Sep 2003 22:18 - 2145 of 23498

Evening all, relief at last. All set up and running smoothly, touch wood. Had a ghastly time. Couldn't load programmes, USB wouldn't work and to cap it all I loaded Norton anti-virus and found I had The Blaster Worm and the Welchia Worm as well. Still I've successfully removed them with the aid of Symantecs removal tools and Outlook Express loads up in a milli-second and not the half a minute it was taking before.

I have the same problem as you. All my contacts are on my old PC which I think I will try to fix myself. My USB problem was a corker because I use a USB Flash Drive for my back-up, so I could not read any of my finacial data or genealogical files.

Still I'm now up and running and just a few odds and ends to sort. So, I guess it's time to break out the bubbly and sherry trifle and get on with life.

vasey - 25 Sep 2003 12:21 - 2146 of 23498

I'm delighted you have now sorted your computer. I also couldn't access the Family Tree that I had been working on for about 3 years. Wan't prepared to 'lose 1867 people' and all that research, but a friend of mine worked out a piece of software was missing that made the bridge and voila!

As for the contacts? Who cares? If they want to contact me, I'll add them back in. I have missed very few people, so perhaps that was a lesson in itself!

Err.....Did I hear the sound of a cork exploding from a bottle neck? Is is past Midday.....YIPPEEEEE, I've spotted an almost-full bottle and detect some over chips in the oven. Great lunch, thanks Socks!

Sorry, Socks, but I haven't received anything from you....yet!

Sent via MoneyAM. Till I get my old PC up and running I don't have your e-mail, silly me, could have sent mine to you. I've just spent about 3 hours going through 1841 census CDs. Eyes now suitably blurred and brain addled. I'll open another bottle of the good stuff.

Yes it is that time of the year again - the children went back to school and promptly brought back their germs which, with their usual generosity in these matters, they happily shared with their dad.

Even worse one of them picked up the dreaded thread worms - I think they are even worse than the nits.

Socrates - 26 Sep 2003 19:19 - 2152 of 23498

Sounds like you are having a whale of a time. There's nothing like kids to keep you on your toes.

snoball - 27 Sep 2003 00:03 - 2153 of 23498

This_is_me - 27 Sep 2003 19:54 - 2154 of 23498

Ah the Millwall Mutt has returned from stirring up the Turkish/Greek war!
Tell me Jeff; if Turkey invaded Cyprus from the rear would Greece help?
How did it all go, total success or any probs there? Welcome back anyhow.
Believe 'The Saints' lost today, wonder how your lot got on.
Daresay you'll have rec'd Hils 'gem' mail, here's hoping its correct info.
Hanging my head in shame as didn't follow up your info of a few weeks ago re pdx, all to my cost; maybe the gem will make up for it.
Saw the mail re your 78 smash hits; I couldn't work out how to get them here even if I got a modern 78 record player, have an antique one here but no idea if it works.
G is calling, time for a small brandy and then the wooden hill as we're now in Spring and getting up time has shifted somewhat.

jeffmack - 27 Sep 2003 22:04 - 2157 of 23498

Hows it going mate. Loved Cyprus, the Greek Cypriots are great, most of them sound like they are from Newcastle anyway, and probably are. Great weather, food and they drive on the same side of the road as us.

West Hame V Millwall tomorrow, apparantly one of the biggest Police operations staged at a footie match.

Not been doing much share wise, do a bit of Dow dabbling now and then but nothing serious. How is your investing going?, I see TRK is up and down like a whores draws, you still in that one?

Hil has been on a bit of a run lately, so ignore her at your peril.

I'm just looking for a holiday in Florida for begining of Nov, 26th wedding anniv so want to take the wife away. Probably somewhere like Sarasota or Naples.

Hope you and G are well
