Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Granny's boy,

Have a look at the success rate of immigrants in universities and the % of overseas students doing successful postgraduate research.

-====--=

215,

Interesting point.

Why didn't or isn't that happening?

I suppose it is pay rate to "dole" and also poor skill levels.

Fred1new - 23 May 2016 11:57 - 2166 of 12628

Vicky,

Don't worry about Angela, you can always fall back on Theresa, the Cruella of the con party.

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:00 - 2167 of 12628

I don't worry about Angela but apparently a lot of Germans are .

2517GEORGE - 23 May 2016 12:00 - 2168 of 12628

Poor skill levels, I would have thought not, are the immigrants flooding in from these mainly 3rd world countries more likely to have the required skills?

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:05 - 2169 of 12628

I've just seen a description of why the ftse is as it is , apparently there's a recession worry , now that would be nice , wonder what all our immigrants will turn to .

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:08 - 2170 of 12628

don't forget there are a further 5 new applicants ....... Iceland, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey ....... make your own mind up as to whether you would want any of them to join your club

Fred1new - 23 May 2016 12:08 - 2171 of 12628

There were/are arguments that those who emigrated had more "drive" and "talent" and more likely to be "go getters".

I know many immigrants and it appears to me that many of them fit into those groups.

Look at the skill levels of Nurses and junior doctors etc.

Fred1new - 23 May 2016 12:10 - 2172 of 12628

I would prefer not to have the Polls.

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:10 - 2173 of 12628

no one has objected to workers with required skills having freedom to come here
the objection is the flood of unskilled, extended family members and the (minority of unknown quantity) criminal gangs and freeloaders who know how to work the system

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:16 - 2174 of 12628

I thought Albania was in there , another country with a Mafia type make up . Anyone is better than the English though aren't they Freda eh , never done anything have they .

jimmy b - 23 May 2016 12:18 - 2175 of 12628

Why bother with Fred ,he doesn't have a clue , most on here agree we have a problem ,there are just the odd one or two who don't get it.

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:18 - 2176 of 12628

You talk all this stuff but you just Hate the English don't you .

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:19 - 2177 of 12628

Quite right jimmy .

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:20 - 2178 of 12628

vic - you may be right, as i certainly thought there were 7 applicants, but a quick search only brought up the 5 listed

===============

albania did indeed apply (in 2014) so there may be still one more economically strapped entity that is thought worthy of consideration

will10 - 23 May 2016 12:24 - 2179 of 12628

Also add that today's hero, Steve Hilton, slayer of the EU is the son of east European migrants who arrived in the 50's.

The very well educated Steve is an asset to us all.

Proof that not all migrants, nor their kids rip the country off.

jimmy b - 23 May 2016 12:27 - 2180 of 12628

Priti Patel is the daughter of immigrants and she is campaigning to leave and doing a great job as well .We like her.

No one is suggesting that last line of yours will10

Haystack - 23 May 2016 12:31 - 2182 of 12628

The £2billion to Turkey is nonsense. It includes £650m being paid to Turkey as part of the deal for the return of migrants. The money has not yet been paid and looks like not being paid as Turkey is not sticking to the conditions. The balance, which is £1.2 billion is being paid to some of the Balkan states and possibly Turkey. It is to help those countries prepare for entry to the EU in areas connected with the convergence criteria. Those countries include Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and a few others. Turkey may or may not get any money at all depending on how likely they are to join the EU (very unlikely for the immediate future).

2517GEORGE - 23 May 2016 12:39 - 2183 of 12628

Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Iceland, Turkey, Bosnia as well as Kosovo are the next 8 being lined up.

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:52 - 2184 of 12628

thanks george ...... at least 6 of those would need to declare Chapter 11
