THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Just like to thank both the BBC and ITV for good viewing yesterday evening, a marked improvement on the shite the night before...... Brit Awards....... numptys..... extension of X factor garbage.

That guy who presented it should be a prop forward for Wales.

Recorded BBC 2 cycling Laura Trott, shes going to be a World Great and watched live the 2 footy matches. brilliant games both. Well done.

cynic - 22 Feb 2013 10:41 - 21690 of 81564

3m - no probs with anyone who has the brains to get into oxbridge ..... it just amuses me that 'arold is perceived by most to have been a good and solid working class lad wot made good, dinne

btw, i think i have worked out some good recipes for lamb breasts - they're currently braising slowly for 3 hours

3 monkies - 22 Feb 2013 10:49 - 21691 of 81564

cynic, I am not getting into this one only telling gf how to find 'arolds education. I am not a red and never will be.

goldfinger - 22 Feb 2013 10:55 - 21692 of 81564

Cyners for once believe somebody, he was a genuine working class kid. you had to be around where we both grew up. I know he later moved up the road to a better house about 100 yards away but that didnt make him higher class. think it was Warnford road summat like that.

Royds Hall was a rough house aswel......... dont kid me that he was anything more than working class or Ill get my mum who knew him well and his family to come on here and give u a lecture....... and youl like that.............. NOT.

I read this story about the nuns earlier and was looking forward to a bit of scandal as a very lapsed catholic/athiest.

My local priest used to drink scotch heavily at the catholic social club and probably at home. His doctors kept warning him that it was causing damage to his arteries. They said stop or you will lose a leg and sure enough they took off his foot. Then they mentioned the other foot, which was removed. They then said stop or you will die and he carried on drinking and died.

God wasn't much use to him.

Shame they didn't teach spelling and grammar at Milnsbridge and Royds Hall.

cynic - 22 Feb 2013 11:10 - 21695 of 81564

sticky - to be honest, i don't really care (in the nicest sense) ..... i believe his father was a chemist and his mother also did something non-menial ...... to me, a miner is working class, so i can look down on 'im and 'e can look up to me; but i looks up to 'im (lord snodgrass) but 'e looks down on me :-)

goldfinger - 22 Feb 2013 11:11 - 21696 of 81564

Ha ha ha just phoned mother, she says that lot were as common as muck... says dad was a liberal!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Shes coming down to box your ear cyners LOL.

goldfinger - 22 Feb 2013 11:14 - 21697 of 81564

Fair does cyners.... your a decent chap...... well very decent............ not like that pratt called Winnie.

Sure hes gone funny in the head. So bitter and twisted.

Haystack - 22 Feb 2013 11:17 - 21698 of 81564

Harold Wilson was certainly not working class. His father was an industrial chemist and his mother was a teacher. He came from a middle class family but tried to appear to be a man of the people. I remember him being PM when I was at school. I always thought him a bit creepy and slimy. He is really responsible for the winter of discontent and giving the trades unions too much leeway.

cynic - 22 Feb 2013 11:17 - 21699 of 81564

so your mother looked down on them then; that must make you one of us :-)

Haystack - 22 Feb 2013 11:20 - 21700 of 81564

Wilson was originally a Liberal.

3 monkies - 22 Feb 2013 11:21 - 21701 of 81564

cynic please let me know how your lamb turned out on the cookery thread.

cynic - 22 Feb 2013 11:21 - 21702 of 81564

and winston was lots of things too, so don't hold that against him ..... it was his appalling taste in raincoats that was totally unforgivable

Haystack - 22 Feb 2013 11:24 - 21703 of 81564

When Wilson resigned his leaving honours list was a very dodgy document and did lasting damage to his reputation. He honoured two businessmen who were involved in fraud. One went to prison and the other committed suicide because of police activity. I remember him being very clever, but a dreadful. PM.

cynic - 22 Feb 2013 11:25 - 21704 of 81564

will do 3m ..... i have several recipes to be done from the same batch ...... coated with mustard and breadcrumbs and then popped in a hot oven so they become crispy on the outside - added to yellow split-peas with fresh ginger, turmeric and chillis and perhaps some fresh coriander - soup base (obviously) - could also do a pilaff of some kind with saffron, almonds and dried apricots; sort of persian thing
