Cyners for once believe somebody, he was a genuine working class kid. you had to be around where we both grew up. I know he later moved up the road to a better house about 100 yards away but that didnt make him higher class. think it was Warnford road summat like that.

Royds Hall was a rough house aswel......... dont kid me that he was anything more than working class or Ill get my mum who knew him well and his family to come on here and give u a lecture....... and youl like that.............. NOT.

I read this story about the nuns earlier and was looking forward to a bit of scandal as a very lapsed catholic/athiest.

My local priest used to drink scotch heavily at the catholic social club and probably at home. His doctors kept warning him that it was causing damage to his arteries. They said stop or you will lose a leg and sure enough they took off his foot. Then they mentioned the other foot, which was removed. They then said stop or you will die and he carried on drinking and died.


God wasn't much use to him.

Shame they didn't teach spelling and grammar at Milnsbridge and Royds Hall.

Harold Wilson was certainly not working class. His father was an industrial chemist and his mother was a teacher. He came from a middle class family but tried to appear to be a man of the people. I remember him being PM when I was at school. I always thought him a bit creepy and slimy. He is really responsible for the winter of discontent and giving the trades unions too much leeway.

and winston was lots of things too, so don't hold that against him ..... it was his appalling taste in raincoats that was totally unforgivable

When Wilson resigned his leaving honours list was a very dodgy document and did lasting damage to his reputation. He honoured two businessmen who were involved in fraud. One went to prison and the other committed suicide because of police activity. I remember him being very clever, but a dreadful. PM.

will do 3m ..... i have several recipes to be done from the same batch ...... coated with mustard and breadcrumbs and then popped in a hot oven so they become crispy on the outside - added to yellow split-peas with fresh ginger, turmeric and chillis and perhaps some fresh coriander - soup base (obviously) - could also do a pilaff of some kind with saffron, almonds and dried apricots; sort of persian thing

Wilson smoked the working class pipe all the time for the press, but never in private. It was brandy and cigars then. A study of newsreels and interviews will show that the pipe hardly ever lit. He also used to push his love of HP sauce, apparently not used in private.

Pity you're not a vegan, cyners. I'm sure you could probably find some good recipes on this website.
