Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:08 - 2170 of 12628

don't forget there are a further 5 new applicants ....... Iceland, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey ....... make your own mind up as to whether you would want any of them to join your club

Fred1new - 23 May 2016 12:08 - 2171 of 12628

There were/are arguments that those who emigrated had more "drive" and "talent" and more likely to be "go getters".

I know many immigrants and it appears to me that many of them fit into those groups.

Look at the skill levels of Nurses and junior doctors etc.

Fred1new - 23 May 2016 12:10 - 2172 of 12628

I would prefer not to have the Polls.

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:10 - 2173 of 12628

no one has objected to workers with required skills having freedom to come here
the objection is the flood of unskilled, extended family members and the (minority of unknown quantity) criminal gangs and freeloaders who know how to work the system

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:16 - 2174 of 12628

I thought Albania was in there , another country with a Mafia type make up . Anyone is better than the English though aren't they Freda eh , never done anything have they .

jimmy b - 23 May 2016 12:18 - 2175 of 12628

Why bother with Fred ,he doesn't have a clue , most on here agree we have a problem ,there are just the odd one or two who don't get it.

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:18 - 2176 of 12628

You talk all this stuff but you just Hate the English don't you .

VICTIM - 23 May 2016 12:19 - 2177 of 12628

Quite right jimmy .

cynic - 23 May 2016 12:20 - 2178 of 12628

vic - you may be right, as i certainly thought there were 7 applicants, but a quick search only brought up the 5 listed

===============

albania did indeed apply (in 2014) so there may be still one more economically strapped entity that is thought worthy of consideration

Also add that today's hero, Steve Hilton, slayer of the EU is the son of east European migrants who arrived in the 50's.

The very well educated Steve is an asset to us all.

Proof that not all migrants, nor their kids rip the country off.

jimmy b - 23 May 2016 12:27 - 2180 of 12628

Priti Patel is the daughter of immigrants and she is campaigning to leave and doing a great job as well .We like her.

The £2billion to Turkey is nonsense. It includes £650m being paid to Turkey as part of the deal for the return of migrants. The money has not yet been paid and looks like not being paid as Turkey is not sticking to the conditions. The balance, which is £1.2 billion is being paid to some of the Balkan states and possibly Turkey. It is to help those countries prepare for entry to the EU in areas connected with the convergence criteria. Those countries include Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and a few others. Turkey may or may not get any money at all depending on how likely they are to join the EU (very unlikely for the immediate future).

2517GEORGE - 23 May 2016 12:39 - 2183 of 12628

Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Iceland, Turkey, Bosnia as well as Kosovo are the next 8 being lined up.

thanks george ...... at least 6 of those would need to declare Chapter 11

2517GEORGE - 23 May 2016 12:57 - 2185 of 12628

That's the problem cynic, whether it's countries or immigrants or anything else really, trying to absorb too much in too short a time frame is extremely difficult, if not impossible.

I should have added ''especially if they are in poor condition financially''.

As were many of the 12 countries that have joined since 2004.

David Cameron Stuns Local Car Dealer By Stopping To Buy £1,500 Micra For Wife Samantha

The Prime Minister has surprised the owner of a local car dealership by turning up to buy a second-hand motor for just £1,500.

David Cameron arrived at the Witney Used Car Centre in Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire over the weekend to view a car for his wife, Samantha.

Owner Iain Harris said that the Conservative left with a 2004 blue Nissan Micra with 93,000 miles on the clock.

Mr Harris told Yahoo! News that the Prime Minister visited the garage after his “security detail rang up and gave notice.”

He described the Prime Minister as a “down to earth kind of bloke.”

“He came specifically to look at that car – he must have seen it online,” he added.

Cameron is reported to have driven off in the car himself – a far cry from what he’s used to.

The Prime Minister is driven around in a custom built Jaguar XJ Sentinel supercharged 5.0-litre V8 model

Haystacks how can you claim that the 2 billion euro's being given to
help with the fast tracking of Turkey and several other countries into
the EU as being nonsense, and then to go on and explain how they're
spending this money!!!!...

Fred "Have a look at the success rate of immigration in universities"

Yes there are quite a lot particularly Chinese and other rich oversea's
students that come to the UK and pay a lot to do so, they also go back to their
own countries to help with their own countries development.

It's a well known fact that the white indigenous population is struggling to
compete because there are so many different nationalities in classrooms, so
the indigenous children are being neglected.

As to the skills level of the Nurses and Junior Doctors, there is many of
these nurses and doctors who can't speak english, but denying them employment
is against EU employment rules, so feck the patient..

Has far as i'm aware Iceland are not planning to join the EU.

2517GEORGE - 23 May 2016 13:38 - 2189 of 12628

ICELAND
Applied for full membership: July 2009
Negotiations started: July 2010
The EU has opened accession talks with Iceland. In October 2012 the EU Commission reported that 14 of the 33 areas of negotiation - called "chapters" - had been opened. Of those, eight have been provisionally closed - in other words, Iceland has met the criteria.
But there is now a big question mark over Iceland's bid to join.
A new centre-right coalition government took office in May 2013 and immediately announced that a referendum would be held on EU membership before any further accession negotiations.
Iceland's independence from continental Europe has provided fertile ground for Eurosceptics, and recent opinion polls suggest a strong "no" camp. The North Atlantic island, home to just 320,000 people, will not join unless Icelanders support it in a referendum.
