dd,i am still using norton anti-virus version 2000 for up to date downloads, just adjust the internal clock on your pc and down load then re-adjust the clock again total time to do about 30 seconds and dont cost me nothing :-))))

jj50 - 02 Jan 2005 15:34 - 21843 of 23498

DD. I installed Norton Internet Security last month from disc bought at PC World but I think I would have been better installing as a renewal direct as had problems getting it working. Had to keep running Live Update as the disc obviously isn't as up to date as the website. I tried a version of MBs advice but wasn't clever enough!!

jj50 - 02 Jan 2005 15:36 - 21844 of 23498

Anyone for tea and cakes?

jj50 - 02 Jan 2005 15:38 - 21845 of 23498

If you do install Norton, DD and have Security Pack 2 Windows already installed, make sure you turn off the Windows Firewall before you begin!

jeffmack - 02 Jan 2005 16:00 - 21846 of 23498

Very clever MM. I bought Norton 2005 at PC world for 25 after I could not update my 2003 version. If only I had known..

Mega Bucks - 02 Jan 2005 16:17 - 21847 of 23498

when you adjust the clock back it has to be before it expired if you get what i mean ie if it expires on say 30 dec 2000 set your clock to the 29 dec 2000 it always works :-)When you install norton it always asks when you want it to start from and that is when your years ugrades start from !!!!

little woman - 02 Jan 2005 16:44 - 21848 of 23498

Hi all

- MB - I'd been paying an annual subscription for the last 2 years (directly from the US site as its cheaper) and its just run out!

jj50 - 02 Jan 2005 16:50 - 21849 of 23498

It is really clever MB - I had been told to uninstall and reinstall package just before expiry date but that didn't seem to work as some of files didn't completely uninstall, whereas your system is so much quicker :-)

daves dazzlers - 02 Jan 2005 17:03 - 21850 of 23498

Mb,thanks for that advice, would you say it is best to wait until it has expired before i do the clock,or a couple of days before.

hilary - 02 Jan 2005 17:26 - 21851 of 23498

Dazzler,

When your license is approaching expiry, there will be a window which appears habitually (at start up from memory) telling you that you need to renew your subscription and inviting you to renew on-line. You will need to play about with the options to stop this window from re-appearing. You will also need to disable the automatic live update facility.

After that, whenever you want to update your program (once a fortnight or once a month), you just reset your PC clock beforehand and then go into Norton and do the live update.

Mega Bucks - 02 Jan 2005 17:34 - 21852 of 23498

dd,it makes no odds i dont think,it is all down to when you install it and the date you enter when to start and that is the only thing it recognises, after all you are only fooling it to think it is a current up to date copy :-)))i have the same copy installed on 5 machines and it works on all of them(rumour has it)for the last 4 years.

please note i am not telling you to do this as this is not right is it :-)))but you have nothing to loose in trying it have you !!!

MB a law abiding citizen :-)))

daves dazzlers - 02 Jan 2005 17:43 - 21853 of 23498

Very good morning to everyone

Socrates - 03 Jan 2005 09:42 - 21860 of 23498

Good morning Jeffmack. I have an unbranded USB hub from PC World and it works fine. At work, most of our laptop users connect with only one socket on the laptop and use a hub, much tidier and quicker to connect/disconnect.

Spaceman - 03 Jan 2005 10:59 - 21861 of 23498

Socs, it was Melbourne Oz but I have just arrived in a much warmer (25c +) Sydney after spending the whole day driving the 950km from Melbourne. Bed time now its just coming up to 2200 local.
