Just in a silly mood today, Oily.
I have a meeting with a bunch of stuffed shirts from a major bank and it always gets me in the mood for taking the mickey. Just getting my eye in for a bit of fun at their expense, but they are so far up their own arse, they never realise I am doing it!! Don't you just hate people who take themselves so seriously??

not sure how you would phrase it but I would like to know if the following quote from Ian Bowles at Asda is directly related to GS / Starpol;

Mr Bowles said that if the biodegradable materials, which
decompose rapidly under natural conditions, are successful,
parent company Wal-Mart, which is also testing biodegradable
packaging, will incorporate them into its US stores. "We share
our know-how with Wal-Mart and there is no reason why they
shouldn't use biodegradable packaging if it works," he said.

This quote is from an interview concerning the March 2007 launch of Asdas biodegradable packaging for its fresh food. It can be found in Private label magazine.

Oily, if you have the chance please ask questions about the LOI's, the contracts to which the LOI's related and whether the present plans to build plants and finance them from the placing/offer are the same plans that existed in the LOI's - if so why haven't the contracts been signed despite the RNS on the 8th Sept informing us they were in process of being finalised - extract from RNS below.

'Further to the trading update on 17 August 2006, the Company is continuing to
negotiate with the two parties with which it signed letters of intent to
compound Starpol resin for the US market, and contracts are in the process of
being finalised. '

I know I keep banging on about this and the explanation several have come up with is that the contracts were subject to fionance, but SEO knew their own financial situation at the time of that RNS and so, if the contract was dependent on finance, how could they say 'contracts are in the process of
being finalised '?

Now they seem to think SEO will get booted out of the FTSE all share index in December and that Index tracker funds will bail out.

Yes, they would have no option at the present market valuation ( That's always the drawback with a tracker fund ). It obviously depends on the AGM, and it's content/result. But, and it's still a big but, if things go as planned, when/if these funds have to step back in any negative effect will be neutralized. If things don't go as planned, I think the funds getting out will be the least of our worries.

Well the money for the 3-5 share offer has dissappeared from my share centre account. so i guess I'm in. Will try to make the EGM as i'm off, but I think the missus has re-decoration planned.

So, for someone who has been looking at SEO for a few months but always managed to avoid actually investing his hard-earned cash in the company, when would be the best time to invest. Now / the day before the share offer is finalised / the week after / or later? All views most welcome.

OK, but probably wont help.
Not advising you when or if to invest, just being logical.

Invest now....Big risk as no one really knows whats happening. It looks like the offering will be taken up sufficiently, but nothings finalized yet, so could go bust.

Invest the day before finalisation.... Not quite such a risk as we will have more idea, how things are heading, but not much.

Invest the week after.... You will be on firmer ground as you will now know if the funding has been successful, but if it has the sp will obviously have gone up, so you could miss the initial swoop.

Invest later ( when/if the contracts come in).... You may well miss the big swoop up-wards but less likely to loose a big percentage of your dough.

As I said, not much help. It's a gamble whichever path you choose. Its the rate of risk you wish to take.

I think if I had been watching this - I would turn a blind eye and invest my money in GOO or CHP right now - both of whom are less risk and more certain of an upswing over coming months.

SEO will probably recover and make 100% profit for you over next couple of months - but risk is much, much higher at moment - imho

Taken with permission from another BB, any comments on stockbrokers using up allocations where the nominee client will not be taking up?

So many PI's will have their holding thro a nominee share company and not directly held in their name on the share register. If the nominee company knows that there will be shares not taken up under the offer, then the nominee company will be at liberty to make that purchase on its own behalf -- shows a fair bit of confidence in the potential for a profit you might think?

Cant see it causing a problem. As you say it does show confidence in a share.

Strange day at the moment. Very big spread (just closed a bit as I post). With the reasonable increase in the sp on low volume, looks like another day of big trades having been done but not being released until just prior to close.

It gives me the impression of a market holding its breath.............

Yes agree, no one wants to gamble too much at the moment. Its just the big spread with few buying/selling makes it look like the MM's are not bothered about making a market. Other days on similar trading volumes, the spread has been narrow. Just a thought.
