Bid rumours after close on Friday and over the weekend appear to have been well founded:-
LONDON (AFX) - India's Arrow Coated Products, a mid-sized packaging firm, has made a bid to buy UK-based Stanelco PLC's unit Adept Polymers, a maker of biodegradable plastics, the Economic Times reported citing sources close to the deal.
The newspaper said Adept Polymers has been valued at more than 200 mln rupees.
Arrow Coated made the bid through its UK arm Arrow Coated UK.
Arrow's managing director Shilpan Patel declined to comment on any specific deal but said the company is scouting for acquisitions abroad, the paper said.
It cited sources as saying that Stanelco is selling Adept to focus on radio frequency welding technology and that it has received bids from packaging companies in France, the US and the UK.

Good or bad thing? At least there would be no need for further fund raising for another fortnight.

So India's Arrow Coated Products are valuing SEO adept Polymers unit at 2,334,000.
It must be a joke.

So SEO would be valued at 2,334,001 at present!

Would institutional investors have been involved in discussions d'you think? Maybe selling Adept makes sense if there are firm offers for purchasing Greenseal, although I understood that Adept was run as a separate entity so should not really affect the concentration of SEO!

Kim
Though Adept is run as a separate entity it is still burning SEO cash.
They, SEO must have some good news on Greenseal.
Looking forward and feel positive.

Interesting development, but it reads as a bit of posturing to me.
Still waiting to get that 80% back in.

Alan,
I agree. Although not a main part of SEO's future prospects, I still think they (the Indian Company) are having a laugh. They presumably are testing the waters.
It may tempt others (if there are any) out into the open.
I expect a bit of a bidding war to develop quite quickly.
If no one else joins the race, it will show no one else is that bothered.
A good indicators perhaps of what the polymer unit is really worth.

Also a good indicator of SEO's cash position.
If they take it seriously, they are desperate for more money.
IMO.
I think though, that its just as likely the Indians are merely signalling intent to all UK packaging companies, to see who may approach them.

Adept are the main men behind Starpol aren't they? In which case the valuation certainly is crap.

Taken from last years results.
Adept Polymers
Adept continues to provide the expertise to promote the groups products and
assist in the development of the Starpol ranges along with the marketing of its
Depart PVOH and Starpol blends of pellet, films and materials .
We have invested in equipment to enable us to develop the cigarette filter
trials and, with our advisers, we are continuing to evaluate the market
opportunities. We are currently in the process of manufacturing samples of
filters.
Adept and Aquasol, combining with Biotec, continue to work with Carclo Plc in
developing and commercialising ingestible injection mouldable grades of material
for hard shell capsules for veterinary and then pharmaceutical applications.
END
My view is that although the polymer section is eating cash, if the above no longer hold true, it surely must indication that all development re Starpol, and the work with Carclo has either reached fruition, in a positive sense or something unforeseen has occurred.
To me it must mean that the polymer unit has lost it's importance due to completing it's needs, successfully. Hopefully a good indicator.
Still think the offer will increase as they never start with a serious offer price (especially the eastern companies). Ever tried to bargain in these countries. The same mentality presumably is ingrained in the culture, business is business.
All IMHO of course.

Plantic Technologes....http://www.plantic.com.au/
According to their site and an article in todays Telegraph they state they are the only company to use corn based starch exclusively to make plastics.
These plastics (none oil ) can be mouldered and they have reached a deal with Carrefour the French Supermarket to make and supply plastic trays.
Starpol is derived from corn starch, but as I understand it has certain additives.
Plantic are about to float, and yet they already have a deal.
I wonder how Plantics product matches up against Seo's, both being bio-degradable.
If SEO don't show big progress at the results stage, they will loose the race.
I am not ramping Plantic or de-ramping SEO, just becoming more nervous re these delays.

I doubt it very much Kim!
Could be that with the ongoing restructure Adept are no longer required for R&D as Biotec is probably self-sufficient. I believe the patents either belong to Stanelco RF Technologies or Biotec.
With the result coming out just over two weeks, could this also be a bid to drum up some interest?!

Keep the faith:
The disposal is the sensible thing to do.
Starpol is the key NOT Greenseal.
Look at the bigger picture - Stanelco will succeed.

If they do sell Adept, do they have to sell Starpol with it, or can it be transfered to Biotec or keep it at SEO ?

The patents would either be with Stanelco RF Technologies or Biotec. I've only managed to find one patent listed under Adept Polymers and that was for an extrusion process.
Anyway, its a no-brainer, Starpol is key to SEO's success so if Adept is necessary for Starpol development they would retain it, else get rid at the right price.
