How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

how anyone ever than the champions go into a champions league defeats me but thats the way it is. They got in and have got this far - good luck to then

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 21:47 - 2532 of 10502

Mourinho as bitter as expected in his interview (good to see him shake all the liverpool players hand and wish them well though).

How he can criticise other sides for "not playing football" when all they did was hoof it at Drogba lol

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 21:50 - 2533 of 10502

Maybe it should be named the European mid table league?

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 21:53 - 2534 of 10502

Scrip lol

If im right Milan didnt win their league last yr either

should be a nice banker for arsenal against liverpool at the weekend

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 21:54 - 2535 of 10502

Some poor soul has laid Liverpool at 250-1 to win the CL. Must be bricking himself.

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 21:56 - 2536 of 10502

OUCH !!!!!!

saying that someone laid murphy at over 400s to win the snooker

Could be worse next year, the FA have on all accounts decided that even if Liverpool win the CL, Everton if they finish 4th will take their place in the comp next yr

How sick did Owen look when asked if he would come to the final - did he make the right decision leaving Liverpool for Madrid lol

bakko - 03 May 2005 21:58 - 2537 of 10502

Scrip,

Just look at the finalists of last year; Porto and Monaco, hardly European heavyweights!!

Tonight Liverpool got their tactics spot on. It was a professional performance and good luck to them in the final

Harlosh - 04 May 2005 12:48 - 2538 of 10502

bakko - 04 May 2005 13:55 - 2541 of 10502

Harlosh and Fundy,

Yep, Still on.

Pulled in some nice profits this morning on the tennis so plenty of beer money on me!

See you guys later.

Harlosh - 04 May 2005 16:04 - 2542 of 10502

Just gonna try and win mine now.

Scrip, thanks. Not fancy taking the Lear jet into Manchester? Lol.

bakko - 05 May 2005 11:25 - 2543 of 10502

Morning All,

Thanks John for a great evening last night.

Fundy, Where were you last night? We missed your humour and input but you'll have to be around for the next night out.

John and I discussed a great deal last night and even poked fun over our momentuous betfair cockups! Some very interesting strategies and tactics were also talked about. Hopefully, when we catch up again you'll be around.

Scrip and others are welcome too.

John, As we talked about the tennis the websites for the current mens and womens competitions are:

Click onto live scores to get live updates.

Just looking at the matches today I'd expect Clijsters, Sharapova, Henin and Mauresmo (women). Coria, Gaudio and Nadal (men) to win comfortably. But, then again, what I expect and what happens in reality may not be the same!
Although, the odds on some of these are miserly, just use it to gauge the movements as the game unfolds.

Scripophilist - 05 May 2005 12:46 - 2544 of 10502

Major carnage on the Tennis. Kim Clijsters retires on injury and a 1.01 gets turned over. More than 250k matched under 1.05!!

Scripophilist - 05 May 2005 12:47 - 2545 of 10502

1.01 222,388
1.02 188,305

Fundamentalist - 05 May 2005 13:17 - 2546 of 10502

Ouch!!!!

Saying that i was on a clisters game last week and you could see she had real probs with her shoulder - they were talking then about her possibly retiring in that game

Scripophilist - 05 May 2005 13:45 - 2547 of 10502

While in the US I watched a presentation that was very interesting. Very complicated maths but the summary was that for psychological reasons laying low and backing high is the preferred strategy regardless of your underlying reading of a game.

bakko - 05 May 2005 13:57 - 2548 of 10502

Unfortunately, I got f*****d on the Clisjers game.

Backed her at the outset but only had the scoreboard to go by. She only scraped the first set but then as the odds started to go berserk I realised something was wrong.

You win some and loose some! Unfortunately, I lost this one.

At least Sharapova didn't let me down.

cunningham - 05 May 2005 22:37 - 2549 of 10502

Thank god for greening up. 2 mins from the end of extra time Sporting Lisbon get the equalizer to go through in the qualifying market. Great game end to end stuff.

Scripophilist - 05 May 2005 22:44 - 2550 of 10502

1.01 sunk at half time as well I believe. Lots of 1.01 sunk all over the place today. Makes me tempted to lay a Labour win at 1.01!!
