Not much jam tomorrow, probably a bit of cheese though.

Ouch ! my bet has not worked dropping like a stone !

dawall - 14 Mar 2008 08:17 - 26173 of 27111

I would say this looks a lot more positive than past statements from Stanelco but more to the point if true the business seems very controlled and focused now versus previous management.
Not sure why sp is 20% down though, I don't know what people were really expecting, some profit perhaps?

This statement certainly doesn't look like that of a business that is going tits up although a bit more time is probably needed. I hope the mms can push this down to 0.3-0.4 so I can load up with more and bring my average down further. Anyone else who is in at a much higher price would be crazy not to now do the same.

At the moment ..no it is not going to go bust !

required field - 14 Mar 2008 08:30 - 26175 of 27111

Might be a rebound now !

hewittalan6 - 14 Mar 2008 08:34 - 26176 of 27111

Just a whiff of gorgonzola;
SEO direct sales of Biotec product increased significantly (from a small base) and a credible partner to commercialize Aquasol IP.
Reading the SPhere announcement, I thought it was all down to SPhere, the sales of Biotec.

Boy ! does this share move or what...incredible ups and downs like PET in the past !

required field - 14 Mar 2008 08:38 - 26178 of 27111

Frankly it is the best RNS for years...and for once no lies or nonsense in it !

oblomov - 14 Mar 2008 08:40 - 26179 of 27111

The grand CE Paul Mines
He had 3000 million shares
He marched them up to the top of the hill
and he marched them down again!

And when they were up they were up
and when they were down they were down
and when they were only halfway up
we piled in like clowns!

required field - 14 Mar 2008 08:49 - 26180 of 27111

Serious rebound...these market makers are crafty !, I should have waited until this morning before buying !

tweenie - 14 Mar 2008 08:54 - 26181 of 27111

laughter is the best medicine..........
Chopsticks put away for another weary year.
if it hit 0.5 might top up with my end of year money.
Otherwise head down,wait and see.

required field - 14 Mar 2008 08:56 - 26182 of 27111

Almost back to where we started....this is the first time for years that even without holding (I do at this present moment) that there is possibility with this stock...might even attract the likes of Cynic (what am I saying ?....the white suits will be after me again !).

blanche - 14 Mar 2008 08:59 - 26183 of 27111

The tree has been shaken and all the weak ones fell off as usual. Hang in there this is going to end up BLUE! imo

kimoldfield - 14 Mar 2008 09:54 - 26184 of 27111

I see RF as being this company's main core business for a few more years before bioplastics become the norm for packaging, by which time there will be many more players in the arena. I'm not saying that the jam/cheese will not become high quality stuff and that there won't be much to spread on your bank manager's face, given time I think it will, but for now for me, there is better value elsewhere. Still sticking with SEO in a small way (75k shares) but switching to their former 'rival' Meldex for a possible brighter future. Ok, so that's the beginning of the end for MDX now I suppose!

hewittalan6 - 14 Mar 2008 09:59 - 26185 of 27111

The very best of luck to you!!
I think the cheese may be a little closer than you think, though.
I base this on an apparantly honest statement that nevertheless does mention commercialization, JV's and increased staffing in the year to come.

robinhood - 14 Mar 2008 10:00 - 26186 of 27111

Why is it when everyone wants a "greener" world most of the "green" shares perform so badly

halifax - 14 Mar 2008 10:17 - 26187 of 27111

Because you are dealing in rubbish!!

oblomov - 14 Mar 2008 10:28 - 26188 of 27111

Not everyone does want a so-called 'greener' world, robin. Those who do have the biggest mouths, thats all, and they usually have an ulterior motive - i.e. money. 'Green' is big business (though not for Stanelco, unfortunately!!!) in the same way as 'organic' is. People are at last realising the organic movement was a con - the same thing will happen eventually with the green movement.

Most so-called 'green' people appear to want to save this planet whilst living on a completely different one.

Whilst I'm on my soap-box, there is a great video here on climate change which exposes the myths most people are too happy to believe - a great number of scientists do not believe climate chamge is man-caused, but the media dont report anything other than the opinions of the doom and gloomers!
Speech over.

Alan, I agree that the RNS was an honest reflection, at last, of where the company is now but there are too many similarities with previous announcements which say things like:-
" we expect continued good progress in the Group's main businesses."
We've been expecting that for a long time now.
"we remain confident that the resources are in place to improve our business
performance over time. When we achieve profitability we should have substantial
protection from taxation due to the ability to offset prior years' losses."
At least they are not saying "we are selling to WalMart, McDonalds, Sainsbury, M&S" But after all this time they SHOULD be! I sincerely hope that their present sales team are able to pull something out of the bag for SEO but until I see active advertising on a HUGE scale, which is painfully absent at present, I do not have as much faith that the company, quote, "are looking for new opportunities to increase its critical mass quickly." emphasis on the "quickly"!

I will, however, be looking for opportunities to increase my holding as and when I feel that real progress is being made.

garyble - 14 Mar 2008 10:43 - 26190 of 27111

Glad I didn't lose any sleep over this. All very much as expected for a change.

I'm quite impressed with the clarity and apparent openness of the results. Certainly a refreshing change from the old "SEO speak".
