Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Do they ever stop Bullsh@tting these people , or are they sworn to it when they get anointed as an MP. Do they know what reality is anymore .

fact that ALL of the Kinnock clan has worked for the EU and have received
huge salary's, nothing was said of their pensions of course, but he wouldn't
answer the main question saying it had no influence on his decision on
recommending to remaining....LOFL!!!....

Gyp is a moderately common expression, mainly in the UK, but also in Commonwealth countries, though my gut feeling is that it’s now mostly used by older people. I am a signed up member of LEAVE and I received this yesterday. I am not sure if I will go though. I did go to a count years ago for a GE.

We are entering the final stage of the campaign where your help and support will be more important than ever. I will be in touch over the coming days about the plan up until 23rd June and how you can help on polling day itself, but first I need to tell you about the count.

The .......... Count will take place at ......... from 10pm on Thursday 23rd June and counting will take place through the night.

I have been asked by Vote Leave to nominate counting agents to assist me on the night. If you would like to attend, please let me know by sending me you name, full postal address and your mobile number. If you are an elected Councillor, you will still need to register as a counting agent.

You do not need to have attended a count before, but if you do have experience, that would be very useful.

When do I need to be there?
You will need to arrive at ......... at 10pm. It is important you are there as close to 10pm as possible, as verification of ballot papers from polling stations nearby will arrive very soon after 10pm. Please note there is no parking at ........

The night will be long and at times will feel like it is going slowly. I would hope that .......... will have declared by 3am, but that is purely a guess and it may go on longer than that.

What do I need to do at the count?
The count is formed of two stages. The first is verification, when the ballot papers in each box are tipped out and counted. This is to check that the number of ballot papers corresponds with the number of people in that polling station who have been marked as having voted.

We will also then know the turnout for ........., which I will feed in to HQ.

The second part of the count involves sorting the ballots into piles for leave and remain. This is pretty straightforward, but you will need to check the council staff are placing them into correct piles. They will be tired too and may make mistakes.

Any disputed ballot papers will be separated and decided by a senior counting officer at the Council, but we can give our input, based on the Electoral Commission's published guidance on doubtful ballot papers HERE.

The ballot papers are then sorted into bundles which are then counted.

Do I need experience?
If you do have experience at a count, please do volunteer for this one especially if you are a ....... councillor, but you don't need experience, I can send you some information to read through in advance.

What can't I do at the count?
Again, I can send through some guidance, but you will need to turn your phone off on the counting floor, you cannot touch the ballot papers, you can't distract the counting clerks, or argue with opponents and there is strictly no photography.

5million foreigners granted citizenship in EU in six years

More than five million people have been granted citizenship in the EU over the past six years giving them the right to live and work in the UK, according to official figures.

Eurostat, the EU's official statistical agency, disclosed that the number of people given citizenship by EU nations has risen from 771,800 in 2009 to 889,100 in 2014.

One in five of those who has been granted citizenship in Europe over the past six years has been given a British passport, more than any other nation.

Vote Leave hailed the figures as evidence of "how little control we have over our borders" because EU citizens are free to come to the UK.

It said that the number of people who have been granted citizenship would be greater than the accession of Albania and Montenegro.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of Vote Leave, said: "These figures show how little control we have over our borders while we stay in the EU.

"The number of people coming to the EU is increasing each year and it is becoming unsustainable.

"This level of migration puts a strain on our invaluable public services, as well as jobs and wages. The British people are absolutely right to be concerned."

ICM online AND phone polls show six point LEAVE leave

Two weeks ago ICM produced an unexpected result – they did parallel phone and online polls for the Guardian, and found a five point lead for LEAVE in both online and by phone. A five point lead for leave in an online poll was slightly unusual, but not completely out of line with the then average position of neck-and-neck. The five point lead in the telephone poll was remarkable, given most other phone polls (a) were showing a consistently different pattern to online polls and (b) were showing a robust lead for REMAIN. The poll got a lot of attention, but we reserved judgement a little – it was only one poll, and it was conducted over a bank holiday weekend so perhaps the sample could have been affected.

Today ICM have repeated that experiment and confirmed their earlier findings – their online and telephone polls are painting the same picture, and both have LEAVE with a clear lead. Topline figures by telephone are REMAIN 45%(+3), LEAVE 50%(+5), Don’t know 5% – equating to a six point leave lead of LEAVE 53%, REMAIN 47%. Topline figures online are REMAIN 44%(nc), LEAVE 49%(+2), Don’t know 7%(-2) – also equating to a six point lead for leave.

cynically one must question the accuracy of these latest polls
while the tide has certainly turned against "remain", are the latest poll results yet another scare tactic as has been practised incessantly by both sides

I agree with the point it makes:-

We must set ourselves free from dictatorial Brussels. Throughout our 43-year membership of the European Union it has proved increasingly greedy, wasteful, bullying and breathtakingly incompetent in a crisis.

I have nothing against decent hard-working people seeking a better life for themselves. The operative words being decent hard-working. They will still be free to work here after independence. Just remove the criminals and vagabonds back to where they came from.
