A human rights report revealed that 70 Palestinian captives died under torture in Israeli occupation jails since 1967.

The report, which was written by a researcher in prisoners' affairs, added: "There are tens of captives who died after being released from Israeli jails of illnesses caused mainly by torture. Hundreds of ex-captives are still suffering various physical and psychological illnesses and permanent disabilities as a result of the torture they underwent during their captivity."

He said that the fact that the list of deaths contains only male captives does not mean that female and child captives are not tortured in Israeli occupation jails, pointing to the fact that all testimonies point to the fact that all Palestinians who get detained by the occupation are subjected to torture regardless of their age, sex or health condition.

He called on the United Nations and International human rights organisations to investigate the types of psychological and physical torture systematically and "lawfully" practiced by the Israeli occupation in interrogation centres and jails so that they could pressure the occupation to make torture illegal and to try all those who practiced it and all those who made lawful for them to practice it.

I do my own research from a variety of sources. I only post stories that are reported in different places. I use Palestinian sources, which are biased, Jewish sources also biased, the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera (surprisingly fair minded) and lots of others.

The Jerusalem Post, which is a centerist Israeli paper and web site. It is often very critical of Israel and they post stories that they may or may agree with. It is very good for straight news.

Terror groups increasingly shifting to non-violent means in bid to isolate Israel, report says

The two terror groups responsible for most Israeli casualties in recent years, Hamas and Hezbollah, are increasingly towing the line with Fatah's non-violent approach given the success of such tactics, the Wall Street Journal says.

According to the report, Hamas believes that the recent flotilla incident caused more damage to Israel than military operations, a conclusion that may signal a shift in the group's conduct.

"When we use violence, we help Israel win international support," senior Hamas man Aziz Dweik was quoted as saying. "The Gaza flotilla has done more for Gaza than 10,000 rockets."

Referring to the flotilla raid that left nine people dead, the Wall Street Journal wrote: "The incident triggered international condemnation and plunged Israel into one of its worst diplomatic crises in years."

Another enthused supporter of "civil disobedience" tactics is apparently none other than Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who urged his followers to take part in future sails to the Strip.

Hezbollah member Ghaleb Abu Zeinab said this marked the first time Nasrallah had so clearly embraced such tactics against Israel.

"We saw that this kind of resistance has driven the Israelis into a big plight," he was quoted as saying.

Israeli officials have also taken note of the change and are concerned by it.

"People who are provoking violence are using peaceful protest as a cover," government spokesman Mark Regev was quoted as saying. He added that terror groups are still committed to Israel's destructions, but believe they can achieve more by prompting global isolation of Israel via non-violent means.

Hamas lawmaker Salah Bardawil summed up the group's thinking: "Hamas used to believe (international support) was just empty wordstoday it is very interested in international delegationsand in bringing Israeli officials to justice through legal proceedings."

Hamas do want humanitarian aid. The trouble is that Israel lets so little through. The smuggling through the tunnels is how some of the food and general supplies (and arms I would guess) reach Gaza. I hope that they do make some money out of smuggling as it will help fund the Hamas party. It is interesting that Israel feels quite happy to bomb the tunnels that run from Gaza across the border to Egypt when this is not even a border with Israel.

As for Hamas not wanting humanitarian aid: -

I wouldn't know if they make money out of smuggling or not. I hope they would make a bit tio fund their party. I doubt that they do make any money as it is not them directly who do the smuggling but it is possible.
