Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Hays'

How do YOU know they are not fiction? You continually post articles from the internet, taking them at face value, without doing any research yourself.
I suppose you read everything you believe whatever the media; but then you're never wrong, or at least do not admit to being so.

who is the raghead champion? .... he is like the "reliable source"

ptholden
I do my own research from a variety of sources. I only post stories that are reported in different places. I use Palestinian sources, which are biased, Jewish sources also biased, the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera (surprisingly fair minded) and lots of others.

This is interesting West Bank poverty 'worse than Gaza'

The Jerusalem Post, which is a centerist Israeli paper and web site. It is often very critical of Israel and they post stories that they may or may agree with. It is very good for straight news.

Jonathan: I note that Kayak is online as I type this, but, in case he is failing to pay attention, you may be assured that I am keeping an eye on your punctuation supervision. Please carry on.

Edited,

Wrong thread!

cynic - 03 Jul 2010 11:48 - 3035 of 6906

you aren't paranoid; you are deservedly persecuted

Cynic,

Your wit is improving.

Hays,

You will have to do without me for a month, or so, don't wear your little fingers out or let the opposition get you down.

Your view point about the Middle East is becoming more acceptable by the general public.

What the effects of that will be, is guesswork.

Hamas: Ships do more than rockets

Terror groups increasingly shifting to non-violent means in bid to isolate Israel, report says

The two terror groups responsible for most Israeli casualties in recent years, Hamas and Hezbollah, are increasingly towing the line with Fatah's non-violent approach given the success of such tactics, the Wall Street Journal says.

According to the report, Hamas believes that the recent flotilla incident caused more damage to Israel than military operations, a conclusion that may signal a shift in the group's conduct.

"When we use violence, we help Israel win international support," senior Hamas man Aziz Dweik was quoted as saying. "The Gaza flotilla has done more for Gaza than 10,000 rockets."

Referring to the flotilla raid that left nine people dead, the Wall Street Journal wrote: "The incident triggered international condemnation and plunged Israel into one of its worst diplomatic crises in years."

Another enthused supporter of "civil disobedience" tactics is apparently none other than Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who urged his followers to take part in future sails to the Strip.

Hezbollah member Ghaleb Abu Zeinab said this marked the first time Nasrallah had so clearly embraced such tactics against Israel.

"We saw that this kind of resistance has driven the Israelis into a big plight," he was quoted as saying.

Israeli officials have also taken note of the change and are concerned by it.

"People who are provoking violence are using peaceful protest as a cover," government spokesman Mark Regev was quoted as saying. He added that terror groups are still committed to Israel's destructions, but believe they can achieve more by prompting global isolation of Israel via non-violent means.

Hamas lawmaker Salah Bardawil summed up the group's thinking: "Hamas used to believe (international support) was just empty wordstoday it is very interested in international delegationsand in bringing Israeli officials to justice through legal proceedings."

i wonder how much profit hamas makes from the smuggling tunnels?....... might explain why they do not really want humanitarian aid to come through, using isarel's handling of same as pretext

Haystack - 04 Jul 2010 19:46 - 3040 of 6906

Hamas do want humanitarian aid. The trouble is that Israel lets so little through. The smuggling through the tunnels is how some of the food and general supplies (and arms I would guess) reach Gaza. I hope that they do make some money out of smuggling as it will help fund the Hamas party. It is interesting that Israel feels quite happy to bomb the tunnels that run from Gaza across the border to Egypt when this is not even a border with Israel.

Haystack - 04 Jul 2010 21:17 - 3041 of 6906

As for Hamas not wanting humanitarian aid: -

Today

Relief aid and medicines from the Aman Palestine Institute in Malaysia with an estimated worth of $100,000US arrived in Gaza on Sunday morning via the Egyptian Rafah crossing.

Is that americanese?

Haystack - 04 Jul 2010 23:07 - 3043 of 6906

It was from an Israeli web site. I corrected a few spelling mistakes, but probably missed some.

cynic - 05 Jul 2010 10:04 - 3044 of 6906

did i miss something or did i not see any rebuttal about hamas creaming in the dosh from the smuggling tunnels?

Haystack - 05 Jul 2010 10:07 - 3045 of 6906

I wouldn't know if they make money out of smuggling or not. I hope they would make a bit tio fund their party. I doubt that they do make any money as it is not them directly who do the smuggling but it is possible.

cynic - 05 Jul 2010 13:35 - 3046 of 6906

very gullible aren't you
racing certainty they have their wallets wide open and ask for it to be filled in large denomination notes

Haystack - 05 Jul 2010 14:44 - 3047 of 6906

I doubt it. There is very little money in Gaza to pay them with. The economy is almost non existent due to Israel trying to crush Gaza. You could be right thoug, there is no way of telling. I suppose it would be simialr to supposing that various people in Israel are getting cash to flatten Arab houses of residents in East Jerusalm.

05/07/2010 - 10:02 AM
The Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported Monday that there are plans to build 2,700 housing units in West Bank settlements as soon as the nominal settlement freeze ends next September.

The newspaper also noted that the Israeli municipal council in occupied Jerusalem will approve next week a plan to build 60 settlement units north of occupied Jerusalem.

A report issued by B'Tselem, a human rights organization, said that the settlements in the West Bank have tripled since the signing of the Oslo agreement in 1993.

The report revealed that the Jewish settlements effectively control nearly 42 per cent of the West Bank while the Israeli government still encourages settlers to move to settlements, the thing which prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state.

B'Tselem said the settlements, a major stumbling block in now-stalled peace talks, have resulted in extensive Israeli human rights violations against the Palestinians.

It said Israeli treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank was reminiscent of the old apartheid regime in South Africa and called on Israel to stop granting incentives to Israelis to move to settlements, and to dismantle them.

you are just sooooooooo gullible!
if no one was able to buy the black marketeers' goods, there would be no black market ..... peeps have no money because they are forced to pay the extortionate prices or do without

are you now going to claim hamas are altruistic?
get real!
they're as greed-driven as the rest of the world - i.e. totally

Haystack - 05 Jul 2010 15:31 - 3049 of 6906

Actually I do think Hamas is altruistic, certainly more so than the government of Israel.
