Re: p289,

Dil, Yes Casper spent 9 years at Burnley but was never capped, http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Casper_(footballer) that was in the days when the England team was said to have been picked by fleet street as it was then. Good player and coach but never excelled as a manager unfortunately.

Treblewide - 17 Nov 2010 09:58 - 308 of 6918

barry bannan of villa and danny wilson of liverpool both looked good last night as scotland B won against a very poor Faroe Islands team.

however there is a lot of young good scottish football talent out there at the moment...in a few years who knows we might actually qualify for something!

Dil - 17 Nov 2010 10:34 - 309 of 6918

We've never qualified for any major tournament in my lifetime Treb , did get to European quarter finals in 76 but in those days it was played on a home and away basis.

I live in hope.

Stan - 17 Nov 2010 11:05 - 310 of 6918

Dil,

Early days I know, but how's BFC old boy Flynny shaping up so far with the national side?

Dil - 17 Nov 2010 13:34 - 311 of 6918

He played for Leeds and Cardiff too ... he wouldn't have been my choice as manager but he's probably all we can afford.

Treblewide - 17 Nov 2010 13:47 - 312 of 6918

Dil I feel yer pain. Next world cup is in brazil. What I would give to go and watch Scotland at it however it is harder and harder for small countries to get there. Corrupt FIFA only want the big nations there for the tv money. I fear I will never see us at a major championship

Stan - 17 Nov 2010 14:29 - 313 of 6918

Dil,

Oh crumbs! completely forgot about the Cardiff and Leeds connection.

He did so relatively well at Wrexham for those 12 years but never made the move up until now.

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 16:37 - 314 of 6918

Treb - Instead of whingieng about how corrupt FIFI are and the over-hyped English Premier League. Why don't you look closer to home and the Scottish FA. Exactly what plans, incentives or otherwise have they come up with to promote football in Scotland? Encourage Scottish players and managers to remain in Scotland instead of the English Premier League? I would suggest not to put to fine a point on it 'Jack Shxt' So in view of that, maybe you should be grateful that the more talented Scottish players have at least the opportunity to improve down the road eh!

Stan - 17 Nov 2010 17:55 - 315 of 6918

One footed or what?

Treblewide - 17 Nov 2010 18:21 - 316 of 6918

Chris......so tell me what plan should they come up with that will stop a guy who has a ten year career moving down south for 30k per week from the 1k he gets up here...,,..am all ears.

The decline in Scottish and English national teams coincides with sky pouring stupid money into the premiership. Go look at the time line.

The sfa are clowns. But I don't think they can be blamed for the commercial ruining of British football.

Ps the sfa have little to do with the scottish leagues. That is the spl and afl but don't let. Facts get in the way of yer rant

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 18:54 - 317 of 6918

Treb - Whatever! I don't have the answer. Premiership is very popular whether you approve or otherwise, not sure if it didn't exist the standard of football would improve over night dramatically in Scotland anyway. Hasn't it always been the case, even going back to the 60's, Denis Law, Dave Mackay era English clubs atracted your better players?

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 19:18 - 318 of 6918

Also to continue the rant, where were STV or BBC Scotland last night? nowhere near Pittodrie! The only TV station to screen the match Sky Sports 1. In England tonight the only TV station to screen the match ITV 1 London, if you don't live in London you need a Sky box to access ITV 1 London. What does that tell me? trade the stock :O)

Dil - 17 Nov 2010 20:21 - 319 of 6918

Premier League recruiting overseas players on stupid money a lot of who are average at best is what has lead to lack of opportunuties for players from 4 home nations. Says it all when England have to call up a Cardiff City striker ... and as I write France have just scored and deserve their lead.

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 20:40 - 320 of 6918

Agreed Dil. The money paid to the Premiership by Sky does not come with a proviso that they must buy foreign players nor stipulate how much they have to pay them in wages.

Treblewide - 17 Nov 2010 20:50 - 321 of 6918

chris...re the tv channels...sky have bought the exclusive rights to scotland home games so no other channel allowed to show it but i dont really know what your point is on that one i dont really care what channel it is on

also....you are taking a swipe at the SFA but dont even know what their role is...so all i am saying is try and get some context before you make sweeping accusations

and re scottish players always going donw south...not the case for a decade scotland took the best of the english players when rangers were throwing money about

come on the french!

HARRYCAT - 17 Nov 2010 21:07 - 322 of 6918

Andy Carroll best brit on the pitch first half. French outplayed England. Rio, Theo & Gareth off 2nd half. Shame for Walcott, imo, but the rest needn't have bothered turning up...... so far!

Stan - 17 Nov 2010 21:13 - 323 of 6918

Our keeper's done OK.. near post goal aside that is -):

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 21:43 - 324 of 6918

Treb - Not only do i not even know what the role of the SFA is, I don't even give a flyin fxxk! My point was Scottish players and managers have taken the road south for decades, back to the Busby, Shankly, Law, Mackay era. And for those decades whoever is responsible for the running of football in Scotland have done nothing to change it.

This decade of English players at Rangers, remind me again how many European Cups they won. I can remember Gazza playing for Rangers and winding the Celtic fans up pretending to play the flute. How many Scots in the Rangers team are there today? Do you really count Rangers (Scots wanting to be English) and Celtic (Scots wanting to be Irish) as role models for Scottish football?

Treblewide - 17 Nov 2010 21:59 - 325 of 6918

chris...out of a normal rangers starting 11 maybe 8 of them would be scottish (Mcgregor, Weir, Broadfoot, Whittaker, Miller, Naismith, Webster, Fleck to name a few)...why if you dont care about scottish football do you keep commenting about it (usually fairly inaccurately)

i know you are in the huff as you got humped again but keep the pecker up old bean

Chris Carson - 17 Nov 2010 22:05 - 326 of 6918

World class players everyone of em Treb. Spain must be shixxxing themselves at the thought of playing some of those guys in the Euro qualifyer eh?
