Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?
If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?
Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?
What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Dil, If this Israeli government was sane you would probably be correct.
But they are hell bent on destroying HAMAS the elected government of GAZA..
They won't succeed , but what the Moslem revenge will be, I hate to think.

Interesting to me that Saudi has reduced oil production.
That's very interesting indeed, Fred, and has doubtless got nothing whatsoever to do with declining global demand coupled with the strong greenback (Saudi Riyals are pegged to the USD just in case you didn't know).

I doubt that Hamas want to have a ceasefire. They keep firing rockets so as to provoke Israel. They hope the worse it gets, then the more world public opinion will go against Israel. Hamas have an avowed intention to destroy Israel as have Iran.
The deaths of 1,000, 2,000 or more in Gaza is what they want. They are looking at a long term plan to remove Israel. They are in reality creating unwilling martyrs of Their people. If Israel is serios about the problem, then they have to abandon settlements in disputed territories near to the border and pull back into their own land. Then later open borders again. The very least, is that they need to hand back land taken from the six day war onwards.
A little story told to me by a Jewish friend. Whem the six day war was on there were collections in synagogues across UK and abroad for the defence of Israel. In the large sysanogue in the west end, off Edware road, where many very rich people worship there was a very successful collection.
They had pledges and cheques amounting to many millions of pounds. It was interesting that the estimate at the time, was that Israel could last out for about 10 days, so it was necessary to win the war in that time. Almost all the cheques were postdated by about 8 days and were cancelled after 6.
I remember the six day war quite well. There was a greengrocer in Golders Green that had a sign in the window after it finished saying "PRE-WAR PRICES".

I was working in a software company at the time of the 6 day war. We had a Jewish guy and two Arabs working there. After the war, the Jewish guy came to work and said, "Come to Israel and see the Pyramids!"

Haystack,
Be careful. I agree with you.
Hilary, well aware. Wonder what the price of oil in a months time will be. Also wonder about the value of the dollar.
Also wonder what Russia is up to.
Interesting world.
Blair, Bush and Israel have opened up a hornets' nest!
Perhaps, Israel were suck into it.

The problem with the squelch button, Fred, is that you're unable to reply to posts when you can't see them.

I've seen many videos and photos , but this is by far the best description of Hamas ! This video was made not by Israelis , but by an Arab , a Palestinian who shows you who hamas really is !
Israel has been telling this to the world for years , but the world prefers to turn the deaf ear and blind eye to the sad truth !
Hamas against the Palestinians ! This is how they succeeded in being elected - by force !
Please watch the video , if you don't have 10 minutes to spend on it it's OK - the first 2-3 minutes are enough to understand .I am still shocked from what I've seen.

After looking at this video all I can say is God bless Israel.
Any one of you who is not moved by what you see on this video the sheer hypocricy of Hmas is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
They are a bunch of animalistic murderers.
Come on Israel I hope that some of those Hamas shown in the trucks killing their own people are now no longer on this earth.
I was shocked.
And so will you be.

It could be that Hamas have no control over "the Militants" as people call them and they will just keep on as they are now......it does not look good !.(I have not seen the video).

Thanks for the warning, sivad.
I couldn't watch that.
I'm sure there are many who would agree with rawdm999 that it is most likely that Hamas are armed with chemicals, for the simple reason that Israel would never be able to justify such a measure that flouts the Geneva Protocol. How often have we heard it reported that there have been second and third explosions after Israel have hit their targets?
And you're probably right, required field.
That's why Israel are pressing on, until the ink finally dries on any ceasefire agreement - this time around.

I suppose here is another barmy individual
Veteran Jewish MP compares Israelis in Gaza to Nazis
Veteran Labour MP Sir Gerald Kaufman today compared the actions of Israeli troops in Gaza to the Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland.
During a Commons debate on the fighting in Gaza, he urged the Government to impose an arms embargo on Israel.
Sir Gerald, who was brought up as an orthodox Jew and Zionist, told MPs: "My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town .. a German soldier shot her dead in her bed.
"My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza.
"The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploit the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians."
He said the claim that large numbers of the Palestinian victims were militants "was the reply of the Nazi" and added: "I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants."
The Manchester Gorton MP acknowledged that Hamas was a "deeply nasty organisation" but it was democratically elected and "is the only game in town".
Refusing to hold talks with Hamas was a "culpable error from which dreadful consequences have followed," he said.
Calling for an arms embargo, he said: "It is time for our Government to make clear to the Israeli government that its conduct and policies are unacceptable and to impose a total arms ban on Israel."
Sir Gerald added: "It is time for peace - but real peace, not the solution by conquest which is Israel's real goal but which is impossible for them to achieve.
"They are not simply war criminals, they are fools."

Well he has been a long-term critic of Israel going back many years so no surprise he criticises current actions. Anyway, looks like the end is drawing near. Hopefully, Israel will get the necessary assurances soon.
Good discussions on Question Time and This Week last night. Must admit I hadn't realised it is not just Israel that Hamas wants to destroy but all Jews globally. Frightening thought.

Lord Levy on This Week afterwards was a little more balanced. The only problem he ignored the causes of the problem. But at least he was moderate in his opinion.
He will be glad to know that my opinion of him, which had been pretty low, was raised a little. 8-)
Kaufman was at one time very pro-Zionist, but has modified his position and prepared to criticise the Zionist extremist groups.
