Ed Miliband’s ministerial team spent thousands of pounds on luxury car hire and hotels while he was in power.


Mr Miliband’s office spent £125,000 on accommodation using a government credit card during his last nine months as energy secretary. It included £590 at the four-star Arctic Hotel in Greenland.


Mr Miliband’s department also spent £3,025 at Carey International Limos, a US limousine hire firm, between September 17 and 24, 2009.


On those dates Mr Miliband was attending a United Nations summit in New York and Washington. His team also visited Bali, Mexico, Barcelona, and made three trips to Venice within three months, according to bills released under the Freedom of Information Act.


Bob Neill MP, the vice chairman of the Conservative Party, said: “Like all good champagne socialists, the Labour leader has no respect for the public purse.”

YouGov’s daily poll for the Sun this morning had topline figures of CON 34%, LAB 39%, LDEM 11%, UKIP 12%. The five point Labour lead is pretty typical of what YouGov have been showing over the last fortnight.

More people believe they would be helped than harmed by a rise in interest rates, according to a new survey.

A leading pollster said the finding suggested that a pre-election rate hike could actually improve David Cameron's chances of staying in Downing Street, rather than damaging them, as is widely thought.

Some 31 per cent of those questioned by YouGov for The Times said that a rise in interest rates would leave them personally better-off, against 23 per cent who said they would be better-off with lower rates and 32 per cent who thought it would make little difference either way.

Apparently the EU are about to ban them because the cinnamon used isn't pure and has a toxic ingredient.

Not that it will kill you as you'd have to eat thousands of Danish pastries to accumulate enough of the toxic component. Just the odd Danish now and again isn't going to hurt you. But the EU are having none of it! Cinnamon is banned!

There is also Uranium in the sea water as well as Mercury and watch you don't swallow a used condom or a floating plastic bottle.

Well EL, if thats true we can look forward to the majority of super market (so called ) food which is full of chemicals and additives to go as well, and about time as well.

I use both types in Asian Dishes. However I eat curries infrequently and therefore the dose of coumarin is small.

Anybody (other than AlDS, Manuel and Hays) or those on Warfarin or similar drug should probably give Cassia Bark a miss. (Nice to chew in very small quantities)

Just one person in 50 is inspired by politicians. Chances are they’re politicians.

About three years ago, I posted something (sorry, can’t find it) which asked why nobody was doing market research about how people feel about the political system, rather than individual issues or Party popularity. But now at last a new Guardian/ICM poll has done just that. Nothing whatever in it is surprising. But for any experienced observer of democratic politics, it is nothing short of terrifying.

Only 2% of those questions found any politicians inspiring.

Asked for the single word best describing “how or what you instinctively feel” about politics and politicians in general, 47% of respondents answered “angry”.
