THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Try this instead.
Interesting reading but difficult for Manuel.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2013/dec/29/uk-manufacturing-economic-growth

"This month has seen further confirmation of Britain's economic recovery and an indictment of that recovery's composition. If 2013 has brought some form of revival, then we must wish that 2014 brings balance to it.

The evidence that this country's return to growth is out of kilter was threefold. First, never-before-seen data showed that south-west London had more mortgage debt than all of Wales. The capital is at the centre of a housing market revival that is powering the recovery, while the rest of the UK trails in its wake.

Indeed, 44% of all mortgage debt in the country is held by people in London and the south-east, areas which account for nearly 40% of British GDP.

Redressing the issues thrown up by those statistics is a long-term challenge, one that involves tilting Britain's centre of economic gravity away from financial services and London towards other sectors and other regions. Manufacturing, for instance, shares its wealth much more evenly across the UK than banking. But while the aspiration to spread the growth may be admirable, and is unlikely to draw much opposition from politicians of any stripe (barring the more fervent supporters of the City in the Conservative party), it is difficult to achieve".

cynic - 29 Dec 2013 20:20 - 34692 of 81564

and your point is?
perhaps it was this bit .... "Manufacturing, for instance, shares its wealth much more evenly across the UK than banking"
even your chosen rag seems to admit that manufacturing in the uk is performing very strongly - surprised me too - albeit that it is from a base greatly depleted since WW1

by the way, when are you going to give your assessment of the achievements of your left-socialist hero hollande?
surely he's now been in power long enough for you, with your self-evident superior intellect, to draw out at least a few of your typically perceptive analyses?

Haystack - 29 Dec 2013 20:40 - 34693 of 81564

You would expect most mortgage debt to be in London as it has the highest value properties. It also has the highest pay, so the people may be better placed to repay the mortgage. I know someone with a £2m mortgage on a house worth £20m.

Manuel.

Bleating again.

You are more a more like an old comedian with a worn out joke.

Why don't you extol the virtues of an old hag like Maggie.

I would have thought she would have been your cup of tea.

But I doubt you would have been hers.

Why not read the whole article or is it past you timespan limit of concentration?

Ask Hays to explain any long words to you.

He probably understands them but like you is in denial.

oh dear oh dear ..... fossy's great at slagging off anyone who disagrees with him, but singularly inept and incapable of answering questions put to him .... a bit like a rather poor quality politician

let's try again ....
fossy - you've seen your hero hollande in power for at least a couple of years ..... please tell us why you think his left-socialist policies, which you seem to support pretty much to the hilt, are so much better that the incumbents' in uk
can you manage to understand that question?
if not, i'll rephrase it yet again for you, though i'm sure your self-evident superior intellect will mange to grasp what is being asked

to answer you ....
yes, i most assuredly think MrsT brought this country back from the imminent disasters that were being manipulated upon us by the communist, russian-paid union leaders such as scargill
had the unions been allowed to run riot, as assuredly would have happened without MrsT, then we would now be living in a very much worse and economically bankrupt country

did MrsT get it 100% right all the time?
of course not, and certainly in her latter 2/3 years, she completely lost the plot

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2013 08:14 - 34697 of 81564

Dave Camoron ‏@EtonOldBoys 8m
Tory energy minister goes to fox hunt while thousands are hit by power cuts http://mirr.im/1ilmINF What do you mean Tories are out of touch

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2013 08:18 - 34698 of 81564

Denis Skinner ‏@BolsoverBeast 54m
If (and it's a big if) Cameron had any conscience, he'll be planning to shut down the discredited and malicious ATOS "service."

cynic - 30 Dec 2013 08:56 - 34699 of 81564

ATOS are indeed a bunch of incompetents, and i care not who appointed them
however, i think there are far more important issues that require priority, not least this open-door immigration that needs slamming shut - fat chance of anything effective being done though

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2013 09:05 - 34700 of 81564

Labour appointed them, but the Torys renewed the contract.

Worth noting they are a FRENCH company so you like that cyners.

This open door immigration policy .......does that go as far as foreign companys flowing in here?.

AND holding the british people to ransom ?

eg, TAN or whatever his name at Cardiff City Football Club changing the clubs colours and firing the manager and placing in young execs (his relations who havent a clue about the business)........

cynic - 30 Dec 2013 09:16 - 34701 of 81564

inward foreign investment is perfectly acceptable, just as is the reverse
mind you, it's very difficult to know sometimes exactly what "nationality" any particular company is, as the taxation position clearly indicates

holding the british people to ransom = what?
somali pirates?
if so, i fail to see the connection

CCFC - does one really care?
as far as i can see, many if not most football club owners haven't any real interest in the game let alone competence to run them ..... for them, it is surely to do with prestige = trophy assets, or perhaps and arguably, a way to launder money

Fred1new - 30 Dec 2013 09:20 - 34702 of 81564

His time is running out like Manuel's.

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2013 09:25 - 34703 of 81564

"holding the british people to ransom = what?".....ends

Well Camoron is hell bent on getting foreign business into this country foreign investment as you call it, but where do you draw the line eg, what about energy, what about defence.

lets take the Example of the Ruskys and the Ukrain?? every now and again dont the Ruskys shut down that big pipe line that goes through most of Eastern Europe? and hold other countries to effectively ransom.

CCFC yes the fans care. fans = customers.

Forget what your mother said about clean underwear. Under Tories a passport & birth certificate are vital if you're involved in an accident.

cynic - 30 Dec 2013 09:46 - 34705 of 81564

defence
i hear your argument, but how would you class the reverse of BAE supplying jets to say Saudi?

it's not quite as clear cut as one might think
further, these sort of deals are never ever straightforward; there's (nearly) always a quid pro quo

cynic - 30 Dec 2013 09:47 - 34706 of 81564

fossy - i know i'm being boring, but then you post 000s and 000s of times, always saying pretty much the same, so what about some input from you on hollande and his policies and their efficacy or otherwise?

Fred1new - 30 Dec 2013 09:54 - 34707 of 81564
