Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 09:05 - 3666 of 12628

Having thought about it , maybe this is why he doesn't vote because could he live with the fact that his vote went to the losing side .

jimmy b - 27 Jun 2016 09:09 - 3667 of 12628

I would think Fred is hoping Birmingham could break away and become an independent multicultural hub ,a kind of Polilthuaniagztan .

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 09:13 - 3668 of 12628

Can't pronounce that myself jimmy .

jimmy b - 27 Jun 2016 09:18 - 3669 of 12628

hlyeo98 - 27 Jun 2016 09:20 - 3670 of 12628

The older generation has betrayed the next generation and Great Britain will be no longer great at all.

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 09:32 - 3671 of 12628

Do you mean the parents that went out to work day in day out , worked overtime , worked weekends so their children could have TV's in their rooms , horses , ponies , endless accessories phones , meals out , education , holidays abroad , cars supplied etc . Do they know the % youth unemployment in the EU , or that these endless immigrants are taking their jobs . I'm sure some on here could further give examples .

Claret Dragon - 27 Jun 2016 09:33 - 3672 of 12628

The older generatıon were sold a bill of lies when they voted ın 70's. Puttıng rıght that wrong.

haven't the time to troll through this lot - am on hol! - but though the labour party is in deep trouble, the tories need to sort out their own house and mend fences and fast if they are not to hand labour the next election pretty much by default

HARRYCAT - 27 Jun 2016 09:47 - 3674 of 12628

European Central bankers are meeting in Sintra today, so you could get some inside information for us if you have nothing else to do Mr C!!!! Can't be far by bicycle!!!

hlyeo98 - 27 Jun 2016 09:49 - 3675 of 12628

Well, it all due to Cameron's fault for letting the people vote, the country is made up of a majority of fools.

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 09:57 - 3676 of 12628

Fred's just doing what losers always do, blame someone else!

-=-==

A strange comment, seeing that the Brexiters have been blaming the EU E(EC)for the problems of the UK for 40 years.

-=-=-=-=-=

I am certainly not seething or angry, but I am saddened for my children and grandchildren's future.

(I think I am insulated from the economic future chaos.)

I close to 80 years old and observed the comings and goings and going ons of political parties and "said" political leaders, but this period seems the most distasteful to me with often the most driving force blatant greed, avarice and self-interest.

An example of blatant dishonesty.

Freed from the shackles of the European Union, Britain’s economy would prosper and its security would increase. Britain would “take back control” of immigration, reducing the number of arrivals. And it would be able to spend about 350 million pounds, or about $470 million, a week more on health care instead of sending the money to Brussels.

Before Thursday’s referendum on the country’s membership in the 28-nation bloc, campaigners for British withdrawal, known as Brexit, tossed out promises of a better future while dismissing concerns raised by a host of scholars and experts as “Project Fear.”

But that was before they won.

With financial markets in turmoil, a big drop in the pound and the prospect of further chaos, some supporters of Brexit are backpedaling on bold pronouncements they made just a few days earlier. “A lot of things were said in advance of this referendum that we might want to think about again,” Liam Fox, a former cabinet minister, told the BBC, including when and how Article 50 — the formal process for leaving the European Union — should be invoked.

Perhaps no promise was more audacious — and mendacious, critics say — than the £350-million-a-week claim. Boris Johnson, the former mayor of London who was the frontman of the Brexit campaign, toured Britain in a bus emblazoned with the slogan: “We send the E.U. £350 million a week, let’s fund our N.H.S. instead,” a reference to the country’s widely revered National Health Service.

Hours after proclaiming “independence day” for Britain, Nigel Farage, the leader of the fiercely anti-European U.K. Independence Party, conceded that the £350 million figure was a “mistake.” Asked by the BBC on Sunday about the spending pledge, Iain Duncan Smith, a former Conservative Party leader who campaigned for Brexit, said the Leave side had merely promised “to spend the lion’s share of that money” on the health service.

The shift was perhaps unsurprising, since the £350 million “independence dividend” never stood up to scrutiny. It excluded money returned to Britain through rebates and money that Britain spent to subsidize its farmers and poorer regions, according to the respected Institute for Fiscal Studies. The institute put the true figure at about £150 million."

PS.

Before Manuel jumps for joy at my age I have to point out I have 2 siblings in their nineties.

My intention is to live as long or longer than they have.

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 10:26 - 3679 of 12628

Strange thing to say Freda as whenever someone says how are you , you say things like , amazed i'm still alive , which gives me the impression your'e not as well as you are suggesting above .

Fred1new - 27 Jun 2016 10:40 - 3680 of 12628

Perhaps, if you had my experiences you would be surprised at my longevity.

MaxK - 27 Jun 2016 10:42 - 3681 of 12628

Well, I hope you go on and on Fred...it's not that sort of argument for me.

Fred1new - 27 Jun 2016 10:44 - 3682 of 12628

PS.

Max and Vicky it is good to see you have a leadership with no plans or roadmap for the future of the UK or England.

The blind leading the blind.

VICTIM - 27 Jun 2016 10:47 - 3683 of 12628

It's all Dave's fault .

hangon - 27 Jun 2016 10:55 - 3684 of 12628

IMHO this result has shown how out-of-touch Politicians are with their voters.

AND - can't we see that EU Policy is destroying money? Look at Greece, Italy, Spain/Portugal - the EU is likely to need more money to prop-up countries that should NEVER have joined IMHO. EU is going to get worse over time and early-leavers will bless their actions . . . It's not "IF" - rather "When" so our exit is a smart-move before the ship hits the rocks . . . the Market turmoil is the nasty-face of capitalism, which was expected.... esp. Banks and Housebuilders, I read.

It is a great shame that Prime Minister DC couldn't stay neutral and keep his powder dry, - but he may have thought he'd "won" Scotland -and- thought the same tactics would work again.
Whereas Scotland has enduring benefit ( English cash) to remain in the UK . . . the opposite is true for UK/EU, the two things "Wot done it" were, IMHO 1) Immigration and the rapid changes to our country. and 2) that money the EU receives and gives us back a fraction. Sure the Campaign-figures were not precise, but the point is true.
3) the imminent collapse of a defunct Politico.

I read that many countries with trade agreements with EU have agreed to "Free movement of People" - and examples were given like Canada. . . . . but somehow I don't think Canadians would agree to mass invasion - rather that historically very few folk want to settle in Canada ( Although they do have an excellent "introduction" programme which is geared to immigrants from Asia.).

The issue EU has is that Free-Movement is only workable when there isn't any!
As soon as a Country is "invaded" then EU-ideals fly out the window, as no country can sustain high-levels of native-dilution . . . . clearly (in my view), the EU conveniently ignored this possibility when it invented such a silly Policy.
The EU policy should be replaced by free-movement for . . . .

-and that I don't know.

Please don't raise the UK retirees in Spain - they are supporting many towns along the coast that would have near-zero Off-Season activity if the Retired community left . . . and I suggest these folks ( from mainland Europe too ), bring their own money to Spain, - they do not arrive in rubber-boats and demand Housing.

Interesting times . . . we shall see.
