Northern Rock (NRK)

irlee57 - 13 Aug 2007 09:03

any comments, thoughts, on this stock.

Barry Harris - 25 Sep 2007 12:58 - 367 of 1029

who buys all these shares when the price is dropping every day ??

driver - 25 Sep 2007 13:20 - 368 of 1029

Barry
Punters that dont normally buy shares including a lot of my friends who have bought on the information they have picked up from the media that NRK is cheap. IMO 100p looks expensive.

ockieb - 25 Sep 2007 13:41 - 369 of 1029

As well as Barclays that seems to have reached/crossed the 5% threshold as per London Stock exchange announcement.

Big Al - 25 Sep 2007 14:00 - 370 of 1029

What numbers you using for your 100p, driver?

halifax - 25 Sep 2007 14:05 - 371 of 1029

Barclays holding is described as indirect?

cynic - 25 Sep 2007 14:13 - 372 of 1029

Barclays were also very busy buying BFC just before the final collapse!

halifax - 25 Sep 2007 14:18 - 373 of 1029

Well as they had lent BFC so much they couldnt do any thing else but take them over. Cynic are you suggesting BARC has large funds out to NRK?

cynic - 25 Sep 2007 14:28 - 374 of 1029

merely referring back to 369 ..... if BARC has increased its holding to 5.01% then they have either been buying NRK for their own managed funds or via CFDs or similar for clients

driver - 25 Sep 2007 14:41 - 375 of 1029

Big Al
Possible break up of NRK, possible no divi, possible muti profit warnings ahead, possible complete collapse of NRK (as you can see I do not hold) so am looking at it realistically.

Big Al - 25 Sep 2007 14:49 - 376 of 1029

OK, just wondered. I'm a bull at these levels for now. I think this drop is well overdone.

aldwickk - 25 Sep 2007 15:21 - 377 of 1029

160 might trigger a lot of stop loses.

HARRYCAT - 25 Sep 2007 16:07 - 378 of 1029

Just heard on BBC news that interim divi will NOT be paid.
I suspect this saga will rumble on for a while!
Those people who bought on the expectation of a good divi are going to be seriously p*ssed off!

aldwickk - 25 Sep 2007 16:16 - 379 of 1029

Hasn't made a big difference to the price yet.

hewittalan6 - 25 Sep 2007 16:53 - 380 of 1029

I think I can see why NRK have struggled;
Taken from AFX report this afternoon;

As recently as yesterday a spokesman for the bank, which has seen its shares tumble almost 300 pct after the lender was forced to seek emergency funding from the Bank of England, said it would still pay the first half dividend.

An SP fall of 300%???
Maths and percentages not the strong point there then?
;-)

BigTed - 25 Sep 2007 16:55 - 381 of 1029

I 90%, completely agree Alan... :)

hewittalan6 - 25 Sep 2007 16:58 - 382 of 1029

Its okay though, cos the Office for National statistics said that of the 108% of people who responded to a survey, 83% didn't respond, 32% didn't understand statistics, but 162% understood them perfectly.

blackdown - 25 Sep 2007 17:13 - 383 of 1029

On a sort of similar note, it has been said that economists have successfully predicted five of the last three recessions.

cynic - 25 Sep 2007 17:14 - 384 of 1029

withdrawing the divi is a bit like finger in the dyke stuff ...... f'ed if they do and f'ed if they don't

hlyeo98 - 25 Sep 2007 18:00 - 385 of 1029

Tomorrow will see another big drop in NRK once ex-div. Finished at 163p today.

hewittalan6 - 25 Sep 2007 18:45 - 386 of 1029

Deutsch Bank are the latest to advise me of changes to their lending practices for sub prime loans.
Reduced LTV, higher underwriting scores and reduced maximum loans.
The problem is more widespread than many commentators think. DB are not small fry by any means.
