The last time RSA reached 160p was July 2003, if we go above 160p the next resistance is 260p.Wouldn't that be nice.

Now that would be great Dil, but I've got that gut feeling that RSA is going places with or without the small PI's (like me) and I don't think we will have long to wait!

Royal & SunAlliance - Michigan Circuit Court Dismisses GM Complaint

Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group plc welcomes the ruling of the Michigan
Circuit Court that General Motors (GM) is not entitled to coverage for its
asbestos and environmental liabilities.

The Court's decision to dismiss the complaint against Royal & SunAlliance USA
confirms R&SA's long-held resolve that GM's claim was without foundation.

no activity on this for a while, despite hte volatility of the markets at the mo, do you think RSA has hit the bottom and we are finally due for up-side? A bit of activity here 2day - due to sharecast below only or is there something else in it?

Date: Friday 03 Aug 2007

LONDON (ShareCast) - Insurer Royal & Sun Alliance has added ground following a JP Morgan upgrade to 'overweight' from 'neutral' ahead of next weeks interim results.

The move also reflects the 19% upside to the brokers 155p price target who believes the fall in the share price in line with the market is unjustified.

optomistic - 03 Aug 2007 15:25 - 384 of 761

Well folks I left these in the hgh 160's. Have been intending going back in all the way down to here.
Still resisting as I feel the flood damage costs and the very competitive motor insurance market is going to take its toll on this years final results. The interims shouldn't be affect by the floods but will they should give an indication as to the potential damage to the year end figures.
Now I've said that, of course it will rise! LOL
Good luck current holders.

i think the fall here looks badly overcooked, so with a downside of no more than about 10p and an upside of considerably more, have decided it's no bad time to get on board .... if next week's figures are good, the sp will move ahead anyway and if they are bad (or even good for that matter), then it may bring a predator out of the woodwork

Yep, I agree.

RSA ahead of consensus
MoneyAM
Royal & Sun Alliance, the UK insurer, today reported a fall in first half operating profit.

Profit dropped to 403m from 416m this time last year.

The result beat analysts' expectations of a fall in profit to 352m, according to a consensus forecast supplied by the company.

Pretax profit for the first half of the year to June 30th also fell, dropping to 338m from 346m this time last year.

The insurer added that net written premiums rose to 2.992bn, up 6% from 2.833bn in the first half of last year.

Underwriting profit fell to 16m to 144m from 171m in the first half of last year due to weather-related claims. However, the fall also beat analysts expectations of a 32% fall to 115m.

Combined operating ratio also grew to 93.3%, up from 91.7% in the first half of last year. The insurer added that it expects a combined operating ratio of around 96% in the full year.

RSA said it expects UK flood losses of 65m in July, and reiterated its forecast for June flood losses of 55m.

There was a boost for shareholders as RSA raised the interim dividend to 2.48p per share, up from 1.75p per share this time last year.

Andy Haste, RSA's CEO, said the outlook for the group 'remains positive.'

'We will continue to deliver the profitable performance that we have seen over the last few years,' he added in a statement.

The UK insurer said that it will reduce headcount by 700 people, including 500 in the UK, as part of its move to further reduce expenses by mid-2008.

'We are working with the unions to make sure that most of these will be via attrition,' said Andy Haste.
Good start for the day.

yum, yum! ....... chart below speaks for itself!! ....... probably asking a lot for 50 dma to be breached today, and 200 dma at about 157 could pose more of a hurdle, but having bought only yesterday at 134.5, am not exactly complaining.

I already have these in an ISA. They seem solid enough to me. They won't shoot out the lights and I don't see why the price has flatlined for so long.
