Iain

I found the following:-

"Just execute this command to uninstall Windows Media Player 9 from Windows XP:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

If you dont believe me, then check the wmp.inf before you do this.

I found this solution on Annoyances.org
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1037649636

Thanks to Rachid, who posted this solution first.

I only had to correct the command line parameter afterwards from "%L" to "%1" and the good old Media Player 6.4 was working again."

Together with this:-

I'm trying to use your method to uninstall WMP 9, but everytime I put

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

into the Run box, it will give a popup that says

Error: could not locate INF file '% windir%\INF\wmp.inf'

Q. What am I doing wrong?

A. Check if wmp.inf is in your C:\windows\inf directory.

If not, probably something went wrong trying to install or uninstall WMP9. Try installing WMP9 again and then use the uninstall command as mentioned to uninstall it again.

Not everybody knows how to apply the manual uninstall so I will explain it step by step:

Go to your "Start" menu and click "Run".

Copy "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection % windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall"

into the dialog box and click "OK".

WMP9 should uninstall now.

A final problem.Im using two monitors with a Matrox g550 card. When I try to play a video through media player on both screens, it only shows in one of the monitors. It plays fine in one but if I drag it to both. Only get the one half playing.

Still cant sort the above out.Anyone know what the problem could be?

Kayak - 22 Apr 2003 09:46 - 418 of 11003

Iain, I don't have the answer to that I'm afraid, short of suggesting you ask Matrox on their forum at http://www.matrox.com, but I'm curious as to why you would want to display a video split across two screens!

Iain - 22 Apr 2003 10:03 - 419 of 11003

Just for the hell of it;-)
My kids wanted to watch the harry potter DVD on the Computer and were V dissapointed that it wouldnt play in both screens and so was I.

Nothing seems to be affected on my PC and it of course cancels every time when I click ok. Pc is using Windows XP home and XP office.
Any ideas on how to correct appreciated-- many thanks.

robber - 22 Apr 2003 22:24 - 422 of 11003

mikeran, have you used kaza in the past?

Neil

Seymour Clearly - 22 Apr 2003 23:44 - 423 of 11003

Mikeran, have you installed any new software - I get this with Win 98 running (strangely) Norton Internet Security, OK before it was installed, Symantec not a lot of help.

leo1 - 23 Apr 2003 00:06 - 424 of 11003

Have you looked in event viewer under administrative tools?

robber - 23 Apr 2003 00:12 - 425 of 11003

Mike and Seymour.

A search on google came up with the following explaination which I hope points you towards a solution.

BTW Indications are that running anti spy software such as adaware will clear the problem.
Click Here and scroll down the page that appears

Seymour Clearly - 23 Apr 2003 00:26 - 426 of 11003

Thanks Robber, will take a look. Time I had XP though I think.

mikeran - 23 Apr 2003 08:15 - 427 of 11003

Robber, Seymour clearly, leo1-- many thanks. I removed Delfin viewer and all is now ok. Yes I am afraid I have used Kazaa, useful for some things, but does tend to take over if not watched. Many thanks again to all .

foale - 27 Apr 2003 11:48 - 428 of 11003

Hi...I have had to recently reinstall Windows
with more than a little help

But sincce then I have not been able to read my attachments...
It just says OE removed access to the unsafe attachment in your email

But its happenning to all of them..ie ones that I get everyday and are always fine

If there some setting I could tweak to recify this annoying problem
Thanks

robber - 27 Apr 2003 11:51 - 429 of 11003

foale, in OE go to 'tools', 'options', 'security' and untick the box 'Do not allow attachments .....etc'.

Can anyone tell me how to back up copies of e-mails from outlook express, to be moved onto another computer? Can back up address book no prob, but can't do the other. TIA.

Seymour Clearly - 29 Apr 2003 23:29 - 431 of 11003

OK Seymour, do a search on Google, that's what I did, loads of software to do it and some explanations of how OE stores info. Hope it helps ;-)

(Sorry, but was being lazy when I asked the question - should have looked on Google first really)

robber - 29 Apr 2003 23:34 - 432 of 11003

Seymour, this is the short note I wrote myself sometime ago (it was written for 98 but should cover other windows versions with ease.)

Neil.

TO BACK UP AND RESTORE OUTLOOK EMAIL FILES.
To backup a single OE mail folder (called for example orders);
1. Save the appropriate .dbx file somewhere. (the file can be found in windows\application data\identities\a HEX No\Microsoft\Outlook Express)
To restore a mail folder,
1. Open OE and create a new mail folder (In this example call it orders).
2. Copy an unwanted email into this folder. (any old thing will do)
3. Close OE
4. Copy the backup copy of orders.dbx into the directory windows\application data\identities\a HEX No\Microsoft\Outlook Express
5. Open OE and access all your old emails with a contented smile

Can anyone suggest a Windows 'scripting' tool. Among other things, I would
like to save time and hassle by starting up several MoneyAm L2 sessions and pre-determined internet sessions with one command/script. The L2 EPICS and
internet URL's will stay the same for every activation.

Thanks
