Black Rock Oil says drilling started on Cooper 1 well in Western Australia
AFX

LONDON (AFX) - Black Rock Oil & Gas PLC said drilling started today on the Cooper 1 well in Western Australia.

The well is expected to take about 10 days to drill.

If successful the structure into which Cooper 1 is to be drilled could contain more than 20 mln barrels recoverable of oil of which Black Rock has 7.5 pct.

'The shallow water depth and proximity to shore would result in modest development costs with the potential high productivity of the Birdrong Sandstone reservoir making even a relatively small oil pool discovery economic,' the company said.

LONDON (AFX) - Black Rock Oil & Gas PLC said its pretax losses widened in the six months to end December 2004 on increased exploration activity.

Pretax losses widened to 997,528 stg from 242,667 stg in the year-earlier period. The company has no sales.

'We actively are seeking additional exploration acreage in low-risk areas where there is still a high probability of success, as well as looking to further strengthen the management team,' said managing director Ivan Burgess.

During the period Black Rock's inaugural chairman David Steinepreis stepped down as part of the company's process of moving from Australia to the UK.

The AIM-listed company has petroleum interests in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Australia, although it plans to focus on further acquisitions in Europe and the North Sea and reduce its exposure in Australia.

LONDON (AFX) - Black Rock Oil & Gas PLC said it has entered into agreements in California and in Colombia under which it can gain stakes in oil and gas production projects.

It has entered into a farm-in agreement with a private North American company to earn a majority interest in and operatorship of oil and gas leases covering approximately 3,000 acres in the eastern San Joaquin Basin, California.

Black Rock will pay the cost of the acquisition of a 3D seismic programme, shot in the last few weeks, and plans to drill three wells over the remainder of 2005 to test two oil and one gas play there.

One of the oil plays there is estimated to contain 1 mln bbls of probable reserves.

In Colombia, Black Rock has has finalised a farmout agreement with Kappa Resources Colombia Ltd, a privately held oil and gas exploration and production, which will enable the group to earn a significant interest in Kappa's 249,000 acre Las Quinchas Association contract located in the prolific Middle Magdalena Valley.

Should not be long before we see some significant moves in the right direction as Ivan seems to be getting things moving now. A find in Columbia or IOW will do the trick and at present I think this share is way undervalued IMHO. !!!!
