How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Panic seems to have set in on the markets, now at 1.14. The book keeps going underround as well, I am having a great time over here.

WOODIE - 31 Aug 2005 12:02 - 4272 of 10502

scrip what is underround?

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 12:06 - 4273 of 10502

Scrip

thanks for the heads up on this

Woodie

underround is where the total martket adds up to less than 100% so if you back every event in the right proportions you will show a profit

100% = perfect market
>100% = margin in favour of layer
<100% = margin in favour of backer

compoundup - 31 Aug 2005 12:10 - 4274 of 10502

...and now <94 is coming in again - this is fun

WOODIE - 31 Aug 2005 12:11 - 4275 of 10502

As the day progresses the odds should shorten as the temperature gets more certain.

Peaks between 1-3pm it would seem.

compoundup - 31 Aug 2005 13:07 - 4285 of 10502

Clouded over here. Might be time to take whatever is available (odds-on <94)

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 13:16 - 4286 of 10502

Compound - where are you? London?

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 13:21 - 4287 of 10502

Some good old fashioned ramping going on on the Forum and the price is drifting. Met office site doesnt appear to be updating hourly :-(

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 13:30 - 4288 of 10502

BBC1 weather:

"temp already upto 30C and forecast 32C later could even hit 33C or 34C" - price drifting heavily

Scripophilist - 31 Aug 2005 13:36 - 4289 of 10502

1.30 for lower than 34.44c looks pretty generous. Quite a bit of panic going on in there. I think my lower than 36.11c is pretty safe.

Seen some 10k and 50k volumes in there.

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 13:37 - 4290 of 10502

temp stayed flat at 30C from 11am to 12 in Heathrow according to met office
