ASOS: BUY AT LOW PRICE!!!! (ASC)

wilco99 - 12 Sep 2003 15:52

ASOS have dropped quite significantly in the past week for no particular reason and I view this as the perfect opportunity to invest as I can see them bouncing right back up to the 5.50p mark in the next 2-3 weeks. STRONG BUY!!

been away in Spain for three weeks and now catching up (360 out of 435) Thanks to all for keeping the thread alive, alive o, very interesting reading so far

sandrew64 - 07 Oct 2004 20:25 - 438 of 5941

Eric
Welcome aboard to PCI, PET and SEY.I also have a fairly small holding in FTO. Not been with any of these for very long but having a good time so far. You came off remarkably unscathed with EPO wish I could say the same. Still flinch whenever that name is mentioned - they say time heals all wounds. Good day today ...long may it continue....please...,pretty please.

Kivver - 07 Oct 2004 23:16 - 439 of 5941

I thought the write up on YOO was fab though think it will take a year or so to take off. biofuels also looks very interesting for the future. the futures bright the futures yellow (disel)

Kivver - 07 Oct 2004 23:19 - 440 of 5941

Thanks for arranging that EW. A similar thing happening on thisismoney message boards where the tipsters have done very well. quite a few shares gaining between 20 and 100% (pci)

moneyplus - 08 Oct 2004 13:47 - 441 of 5941

I read Evil K is shorting ASC and giving details on his site, anyone know what he's forecasting and why?

Kivver - 08 Oct 2004 14:23 - 442 of 5941

Not read it but heard he thinks it is model anyone can use (ie no patents) so could soon be open to competition. Not sure of his other reasons.

ptholden - 08 Oct 2004 15:50 - 443 of 5941

Eric,

Just got back from a week a work. Bit of a shocker having to earn my corn, but the hotel was OK!

My choice is CFA, Epic CFP. Interesting comments on the CFP thread.

I think you have called ASC right thus far, certainly a quiet period now and appears to be trading within a determined band. Any good news and it will be off again. Still might dip though, although slowly losing my conviction that it will!!

Good to see YOO on the up, I am sure it was trading at 20p when I disappeared on Sunday! A very good week for you!!

Regards

PTH

ptholden and team

Surprised you can earn more money working than stock-picking! Included CFP at today's close - looks interesting and will study it over weekend. Cap. makes it look less of a task to double. Have updated table with Friday close and value of 5000 investment in each - at middle price for simplicity, which favours smaller shares, and rounded.

Chose the right week to start with YOO! Almost totally due to being Shares play of the week, plus good IC write-up. Amazing that significance of MMTV acquisition (see bb) not picked up in press until Shares write-up. On previous record, may settle back to give better buy opportunity, although EVO could revise target price upward soon from present 35p. Hope some of you got in at 20p.

It would be good to have a tenth nomination (but see posts below) to round the portfolio off at 50K, but needs to be in by Monday. I am now in top 5 and looking at others.

Eric

dawsinho - 09 Oct 2004 09:06 - 445 of 5941

Eric,

Have been keeping an eye on this portfolio over the past few days, very interesting.... will chuck my nomination into the bag to round the portfolio up to an even ten!
Well here we go........... MPH (Marchpole Holdings) Feel there's plenty of upside still to come from this one! Would like to add that PET has got to be the fav so far though, but thats been taken already! grrr

Cheers,

Phil

legend290782 - 09 Oct 2004 19:01 - 446 of 5941

Eric,

Or Broker Network Holdings (BNH) can't believe no-one has spotted the potential... It is generating cash and should be minimum double from where it is now.

My article got published in shares mag a few weeks back, they certainly think it has massive potential... if you look at the comments they put.

As for ASC, I really don't know where it is going from here...I was going to buy back in but the fact that the FD sold his shares and the Chief exec seems to be dripping his out 'to satisfy institutional demand' made me think again. There are still buyers around, but I personally think they are trying to get a good deal on the business and sell it... and besides I am just about all in with BNH I only finished uni last year so don't have as much money to play with as you guys!!!

EWRobson - 09 Oct 2004 21:03 - 447 of 5941

dawsinho, legend290782

Welcome aboard! I have added your nominated shares to the portfolio in 443 at Friday's close mid-price. That makes 11 shares so a 12th would still be welcome to round things out by Monday. I suspect PET is probably the favourite but obviously very dependent on Iraq which must put it at quite high risk. Just looking at CFP which could be a contender from its low offer cap. Several shares, including CFP, have touched double the current price and fallen back, possibly with little justification. The case for YOO, for instance, is far stronger now than when it was trading at 50p.

I would personally agree that, with lets say up to 10K to invest, putting it in 1, possibly 2, shares. There is an interesting article by 'overgrowth' on the CFP bb making just this argument, against the conventional wisdom of spreading your risk, based on a book called The Zurich Axioms. My own portfolio of rather over 100K is split four ways: 36% ASC; 26% YOO; 20% AZM; 18% energy (PET, PCI, SEY). I am comfortable with that sort of split because you can get to know the shares very well, sometimes better than the professionals. If I become keen on a new share, e.g. CFP, I could well start with a low stake on the basis that that will make me watch it more closely.

Eric

ptholden - 10 Oct 2004 18:11 - 448 of 5941

Eric,

Tying in your comments here with those on the CFP thread, personally I would reduce on AZM to free up some capital!! My Share Club holds an interest in AZM, unfortunately at a higher SP than at the moment. My gut feeling is that it will be some time before we start to see a profit. Remember, AZM experienced an explosive increase in its SP and now seems to have settled down.

On a different subject, I have had a fortunate windfall over the weekend and am now cogitating where to put the money. Preferably something short term; PET / PCI or SEY may be good options, although I think SEY is a longer term play. Hmmm, decisions, decisions!

Back to the title of the thread though. Have you noticed that very few posters are commentating on ASC at the moment. Usually a good indication that interest is waning, this lethargy will only change on news of some sort. If no news, long term and medium term holders may start to believe that the party is over and start to realise some profits, which will in turn drive the SP lower. Still looking to test that support, be nice if that happened this week, I might actually buy some. Chart by the way doesn't really give many clues as to the next direction, so we shall have to wait and see.

regards

PTH

PTH

Thanks for your comments re the issue of what to sell to buy CFP. I opened a bb on AZM a few weeks ago, prior to the interims, looking for positive news about a licensing deal for their obesity drug. In fact, the price receded as the management wanted to be further along the road before dealing with their crown jewels. The price jumped this week on a Merrill Lynch buy signal with a price quoted of 190p, suggesting the possibility of a takeover. I suspect a number of holders missed the CEO's comment to analysts that 'a licensing deal would not be completed before early next year' and stressed the need to have a partner which would be motivated to put the drug on the pharmacists shelves. They are a prospect to double within six months although I would rank them behind YOO. I will probably take some profits on YOO, which is a larger holding anyway, depending pon the relative movement of YOO and AZM on Monday. I will certainly take a 5% stake in CFP. For other readers, some excellent posts by PTH and Overgrowth on the CFP bb.

Regarding your own decision (lovely to have some new money rather than recycling existing!), it depends on the level of risk. Of the three shares, SEY is the safest play and PET probably the most risky. PET certainly has a lot of upside potential and could explode (not literally, I hope!). Posters seem to be very close to the company and it would appear that a decision in Iraq is highly likely within a couple of weeks. This is most likely to lead to a frenzy of activity before the cool light of day initiates a reaction. A short term investment in PET with a view to taking some profits on a price rise following an announcement?

Returning to the primary purpose of this bb, I have been impressed with your charts which demonstrate the value of the Bollinger Band theory - its super that your post above automatically updates the graph. Two newspaper articles this week (which you may have missed) suggests that ASC is really newsworthy and this might suggest that the price is unlikely to recede much. Probably worth building up the holding gradually rather than missing the market.

regards

Eric

I saw in the news tonight, a bomb has exploded outside the Iraqi Oil Ministry, didn't see if there was any loss of life, appalling if there was, but it puts into perspective the risks that any commercial company undertakes in dealing with Iraq at the moment.

Eric,

Thanks for the advice on where to invest, have been trawling around various sites during today, looking for that all elusive, undervalued, about-to-go-into-orbit share! Can't say I have found it yet, but will probably find out in a week, I did actually consider it!!

TRUST ME SIR BNH IS GOOD. I KNOW OF SOME VERY VERY SHREWD PUNTERS IN IT ALREADY... THE ONES THAT WERE IN AT ASOS AT 7P AND SOLD AT 60P PLUS.

sandrew64 - 10 Oct 2004 23:06 - 452 of 5941

Agree with BNH. When this one starts to move again it will fly (just like ASC).Well worth giving serious consideration to. I have.

sandrew64 - 10 Oct 2004 23:09 - 453 of 5941

Also PDX looks about to go into orbit!

johngtudor - 11 Oct 2004 11:23 - 454 of 5941

Some suggestions:

1. I think that if anyone linked into this 'tip' list, spots something of interest in the stock/s that may make them think about selling or indeed 'buying' some more...it would be very helpful if they posted their views on this BB thread.
2. When one of the stocks hits the target, we should continue with the stock/list until we all agree the stock should be replaced with another selection.
3. Changes can be on a quarterly basis...as agreed by Eric.

dawsinho - 11 Oct 2004 12:18 - 455 of 5941

I like it, good idea jonhgtudor. Just thinking is it worth opening a new thread as were on the ASC bb thread at the mo? Good to see MPH is up today....... only by half a penny though!
