Stormy,
I'm sorry but I don't understand why you would open a position late at night and then presumably go to bed and not worry about it, only to panic out of it first thing once you've woken up.
I guess that you left an overnight stop on the position which wasn't triggered. I don't know what your criteria was for assessing that stop, but why did you not just re-assess where the stop should be this morning and adjust it accordingly? What has changed while you've been asleep? If you suffer from twitchy finger syndrome from looking too closely at the screen, why not just go for a nice long walk in the fresh air and forget about your open position(s) ........... you might just be pleasantly surprised upon your return.
I really do hope that helps.

hilary,
After a complete change of approach (all my own work after promised help let me down..:-( ) and paper trading the result, I finally got up enough (dutch) courage to put a trade on last night.
As soon as it allowed I placed a stop for a 10 point gain...and went to bed.
I only found out this morning that it had been triggered about 2:30 am.
Criteria for stop: weak I am afraid, but having had such difficulties with this, when the trade went positive, and I had to get some sleep after a bad weekend, I set the stop @ +10 and left it.
It had become important to me that this first trade ended +ve, and in that I succeeded.
Now that first one is out of the way hopefully I can improve, and thank you for taking the time to suggest a way forward..:-)
(what me?? trigger happy....lol)
Regards
SC

Oh sorry. I hadn't realised that the +10 was a limit order. I thought that you'd closed it yourself this morning.

No. At the bottom of my screen!
Now off fishing. Been doing quite well (for me) on Cable - just shorting when my upside is at least twice the downside. Wish I had the balls to short it with a 150-point stop.

Finally there is appropriate recognition for Fairies. Now everyone who enters this site will have one in their in tray. Bliss :)

PS - I like the way he puts his flying goggles on every time he navigates around the screen ...... I think I detect the fairy hand of MM here ...... it's the way he handles his wand ;)

Have to put my hand up for one of the best trading days for a long time - even though my positions had been built up over the last few days.
I was long 1.7625, 550, 500 and 425 - and sweating. Closed them out today at 1.7625 for 0, +75, +125 and +200 for a net +400 ... not quite in the Hils league but good enough for me - particularly as I reversed a couple @ 1.7625 - with a limit in @ 575.
I am currently consuming a rather good bottle of Cabernet :)

Well done indeed. mg. That 425 entry was pretty impressive!
By the way, my brother used to own one of your sports cars.

Thanks Bob - gave some back today though - left a small reverse in (short) - which was in profit first thing but had to go out and came back to find I was stopped out -50.
Tempted to have another go at resistance around 1.7700 - but I've got to go out again so it's probably not a good idea - and in typing this I just realised it's retraced - better leave it alone or I'll end up doing it :(

mg,
loved the trading report, great stuff!!!!
Decided today would be the day I tried out my new mobile trading facility, should really have been near a screen...:-(
End result, it took me a bit of time to work out, I was quick enough to figure out how to put on a trade.......but not quick enough to put on a stop before the phone died.
Blew 60 points on cable for what should have been a small profit...
On the bright side, I have an audition at the palladium tomorrow, good old motown standard.....
