How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Hi all, whenever i go into the playbetfair website to practice and i back and lay at lower odds it won't then let me lay them again after iv'e done my sums. Is this just the way it is or will they not let you lay twice anymore?

Bugz - 15 Sep 2005 13:57 - 4636 of 10502

I doubt it. The playbetfair site is a cut down version of the main betfair website with a limited number of events and the last time I looked, none of the events went 'in running'. So I'd be very surprised if betfair have gone to the trouble of providing an api connection that betangel could connect to.

bakko - 15 Sep 2005 15:40 - 4642 of 10502

Copper, Bugz,

In a nutshell, Betangel is a trading platform developed by Scrip and has numerous facilities and functions above the Betfair platform which allows the trader to have that extra edge, which in turn ought to lead to fatter profits.

I, and others (and of course, Scrip) amongst this thread use Betangel Pro.

Scrip, I will only accept a 6 figure sum for this hefty plug!.....LOL

Bugz - 15 Sep 2005 15:41 - 4643 of 10502

LOL! Head hung in shame..... :)

DocProc - 15 Sep 2005 16:37 - 4644 of 10502

I've looked and Betangel is registered to the user who also gives his e-mail address, his Betfair username and password when launching the program on his home computer.

To use the PlayBetfair site and product, then the BetAngel registration is compromised as a new Betfair username and password are required. Hence the BetAngel program will not then work.

PS. You Pro' users:

One thing I have sussed out is that 'correct trend direction spotting' is vital. There are various ways Scrip has told us he does this before an event starts. Research, probability, records, statistics, etc.

Am I right in assuming that 'Pro' gives an excellent facility for doing this 'during' the event?

And what else do you like about it?

Would you guys who have it, recommend purchasing it for serious use before going on the course or is it best to wait until afterwards?

Last of all, have you guys got any simple rules and guidelines, you'd like to share?

I was about to say don't know if anyone is playing the UEFA Cup tonight, but the odds on Hertha Berlin look pretty good. Just found out why, match was nearly over, but Berlin scored in the 90 min :-))))

Doc and pth - internal words from me too

Scripophilist - 16 Sep 2005 10:31 - 4652 of 10502

Sorry I have been quiet I have been travelling the country this week on a tight schedule.

"Scrip, I will only accept a 6 figure sum for this hefty plug!.....LOL "

The cheque is in the post ;)

I took time out this week to visit and trade from a Betfair trading den in Cardiff. Twelve seats, 9 of which are desktop PC's and 3 laptop areas. The den is at the back of a bookies and is very smart and a great environment.

The guy in front, David, is trading in running. Look at the SIS screen and the sky screen to the right of my desk. You can clearly see SIS is ahead of the Sky feed (note the 2f marker) so for in running this is ideal.

David had a wedge matched the other week at 100-1 when the leader stumbled but went on to win. You don't want to know how much he won!
